Since the global rollout of the Nintendo Switch Online subscription service, Nintendo has periodically added a handful of games from the NES, SNES, and Game Boy libraries for players to acquire and play. These classic titles often get updated to add unique functionalities, including online and cooperative (co-op) features, which depend on the games.

A new game update has arrived for the Nintendo Switch Online subscription service, as players can access new game additions available to the service. This was confirmed on social media, and its subsequent announcement trailer was posted to Nintendo's YouTube channel, which this latest update is available as of 24th January 2025.

This latest game update for the Switch Online service adds three more classic games initially released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). As per their Twitter post on 23rd January 2025, Nintendo added Fatal Fury 2, Super Ninja Boy, and Sutte Hakkun to their existing library of iconic SNES games that players can gain access to via the subscription service for both the Individual and Family tiers.

SNK's Fatal Fury 2 was first released for the SNES in December 1992 as the direct sequel to 1991's Fatal Fury: King of Fighters; this sequel gained an updated version, Fatal Fury Special, that was released the following year in 1993. The action RPG Super Ninja Boy arrived on the SNES in December 1991, which got a Wii U version that was released in 2014, while the action puzzle game Sutte Hakkun was a later SNES release launching in 1997 which fans of this game released a translated version in 2017.

With the Nintendo Direct presentation set for this April, which sorely focuses on the Switch successor, the Nintendo Switch 2, current Switch Online subscribers will be excited to know that the service is confirmed to be backward compatible with the new console. This will make the existing library available through Switch Online for the Switch 2 console upon its launch sometime this year, and details on its release date are likely to be announced at the Direct presentation in April 2025.
