There are plenty of ways to decompress following a day of adventuring or completing quests, from decorating your home to socializing with villagers and tending to their gardens. Another way is to find fishing pools throughout the Free Lands and enjoy a relaxing day fishing, for which a fishing rod is required.
While the game doesn't explicitly state where or how players can acquire a fishing rod or how to fish, but in order to catch their next meal, they'll need a fishing rod first. This fintastic guide explains where to get a fishing rod and how to use it for fishing in Mirthwood.
How To Find The Fishing Rod In Mirthwood?
Players will require a bevy of tools and equipment to aid them in various endeavors, from completing quests, helping with exploration, and participating in skill-based activities. So far, they can acquire copper tools from The Road to Brightoak quest and the bow at the start of the Hammer Time quest, but there's a fishing rod to find in the open world.
So, how does one exactly find the fishing rod and start fishing resources for food? The fishing rod is hiding in plain sight somewhere in Brightoak. Bring up the map and locate the Northdell Farm, where they spoke to Kimberley and interact with the farm stall to buy the Pokey Fishing Rod for 20 Gold.
As of writing, this is the only location where we've found the fishing rod, which they can use to start fishing in the rivers, lakes, and ponds across the Free Lands. To equip the fishing rod, access the Tool Wheel by pressing the TAB key, cycle through the tools and equipment using the Q or E keys, and click on the fishing rod.
How To Start Fishing In Mirthwood?
With the fishing rod acquired and equipped with their character, they can start using it for fishing, which means there are a few rivers, lakes, and ponds around Brightoak. There's one on their Housing Plot; however, if they go south down the path from their home until they've reached the dead end, move slightly west to find a lake with a dock.
Look out for a fishing pool to throw their line towards and left-click on their mouse to cast it out. A fishing minigame will appear on-screen, and the main objective is to shade the entire circle blue while keeping the hook in the green section.
Once the circle is entirely blue, this will complete the fishing minigame, in which they will harvest various resources from wood to multiple types of fish. This fishing rod will come in handy for the "A Fish a Day" quest at Stormreach Coast northeast of Brightoak along the coast, where they can speak to an NPC, Gareth, near the docks, and catching 30 fish will unlock the Reel Talent Achievement in Mirthwood.
