A few Marvel Snap content creators and players discovered a few changes to the Infinity Split system, which the entire community had not been aware of. These changes saw waves of backlash on why they weren't informed or notified of these changes that went under the radar, which developer Second Dinner had responded promptly to the player concerns and the investigations that were made.
Following the latest weekly refresh, the developer distributed compensation to all players, who were required to update the game to be reflected in their Inbox. However, the compensation drew some ire within the community as many players cited that it's not enough to cover the Credits, Gold, Boosters, and real-world money they've used to split cards, demanding answers from the developer.
After the weekly refresh, Second Dinner announced that Infinity Split compensation had been issued to players available from their Inbox, in which they received one Rainbow Cosmic Border and the X-Men '97 variant card for Magneto. The compensated items received mixed reactions from the Marvel Snap community as many players and content creators pointed out that they had spent plenty of credits, Gold, and Boosters to upgrade cards towards and beyond Infinity Split during the period the splits weren't working, which promptly saw calls for currencies to be reimbursed amongst some of the requests.
For players unaware or familiar with the recent Infinity Split issue, two content creators, LaurenWhatevs and Snap Variants, had worked together to discover the recent spat of "bad luck" regarding the splits, which Snap Variants points to the 20th August 2024 patch update as its origins or nexus point. Using a participant pool of 36 Marvel Snap players, the split data from the game's launch in October 2022, and the split rates before and after the aforementioned patch update, they've identified decreased split rates for Ink and Gold Finishes and Krackle Flare splits with God splits (Ink or Gold finish with a Krackle Flare) taking the biggest split rate drop based on their research and analysis of their participant pool's Collections.
While we highly recommend players to read LaurenWhatevs' Twitter thread on their investigations regarding the "hidden nerfs" to splits, this prompted an immediate response from the developer, who had done their investigation into the issue and provided updates promptly. This saw a follow-up response on social media from Senior Community Manager Griffin Bennett, who thanked LaurenWhatevs and the dev team for identifying, investigating, and addressing the split issue.
This resulted in an update released on 12th October 2024 to reflect the new Infinity Split rate changes, which, as detailed, will remain in place until a forthcoming patch update in mid-December 2024, which more information will be announced. Once the weekly refresh went live on 15th October 2024, a message from Bennett posted to the Marvel Snap Discord server (h/t ZombiesGoNomNom) revealed that "additional compensation for the Split rate issue, beyond the current Infinity Split rate boost" was distributed, and the latter issue had also gone live.
Players took to social media to express their dissatisfaction regarding the compensation, as many stated that they had spent plenty of Credits, Gold, and Boosters to split cards only to be "slapped in the face" with a variant card and border. There's a consensus amongst players based on responses online that they would be content with free resources/currencies to be reimbursed as they had to spend real-world money to purchase Gold bundles, which in turn are spent on buying extra Credits to spend on upgrading or splitting cards.
This is not the first time the developer has caught fire for subpar compensation going back to the Gambit variant issue from a few months ago; it remains unclear if the team at Second Dinner will handle this situation more efficiently than the Gambit debacle. As the conversation continues to unravel online amongst the Marvel Snap community, we have yet to hear from the developer in light of the recent compensation distribution.
