Marvel Snap's August 2024 season welcomes the youthful yet equally determined and powerful Young Avengers to the card battler game, adding plenty of unique cards to acquire for their decks. The next card release brings their mystical prowess to this youthful superhero ensemble, granting players more Energy to spend on powerful cards as the game match progresses.

The next card release brings Wiccan to the game, for which their twin brother, Speed, will join much later, but their in-game ability will challenge players to be more creative with deckbuilding to ensure they get the maximum energy needed for all-important plays. This guide briefly explains Wiccan's in-game card ability while looking at some of the best early decks to play and highlights their key synergies in Marvel Snap.

Marvel Snap Wiccan Card Abilities Explained

Being a young and aspiring magician, William "Billy" Kaplan (Maximoff)/Wiccan, along with his brother Thomas "Tommy" Shepherd (Maximoff)/Speed, are the twin children of Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch and The Vision who were initially birthed as magical constructs before being reincarnated as humans, assuming the name William Kaplan. Billy inherited his mother's magical powers, which included Energy Blasts and Teleportation following an altercation in which they stood up to a school bully and almost killed him.

While they received some encouragement from the Scarlet Witch before the incident, they slowly began practicing his magical powers, hoping to meet her again. This plan was eventually halted when the Young Avengers were formed, which saw Billy joining Kate Bishop, Nathaniel "Nate" Richards/Iron Lad, Theodore "Teddy" Altman/Hulking, and Eli Bradley/Patriot with their twin brother joining much later.

Wiccan will reunite with their fellow Young Avengers as they join Marvel Snap as the next character card release for the coming week. Upon their release, they'll launch as a four-Cost and seven Power card with an On Reveal ability for players to gain +2 Max Energy if they've spent all their Energy in the game.

As for acquisition, Wiccan can be obtained from the Spotlight Caches, which requires Spotlight Keys to unlock them. Likewise, he can also be purchased from the Token Shop, where players can spend 6,000 Collector's Tokens, but Cassandra Nova will be available from the in-game shop the same week, according to the Maximum Effort season post.

Best Marvel Snap Wiccan Decks: Wiccan Tribunal

Wiccan could be prioritized over Mister Negative in Tribunal decks, as the extra Energy may needed to play key high-Cost cards early. (Picture: Untapped.gg)

While the jury isn't out regarding Wiccan's gameplay mechanics, whether spending all energy includes the turn Wiccan is played, the condition to meet is to spend the energy per turn to gain the +2 Max Energy. Deckbuilding as such is quite challenging as it will be hard for players to meet this requirement as it will push them to play cards on curve each turn, but there are a few key synergies that will help in this regard.

One key synergistic card is their uncle, Pietro Maximoff/Quicksilver, who has a common ability to start in their opening hand, taking advantage of Quicksilver's ability to guarantee the +2 Max Energy on the first turn. Wiccan, therefore, has magically found their way in a variation of The Living Tribunal (or Tribunal) deck from Marvel Snap content creator Docty, which sees a bevy of cards included to ensure players can play on curve, with Magik being another key card to extend the game by one more turn.

The general strategy is to get Quicksilver onto the board on Turn 1 by having Psylocke on Turn 2 to play Wiccan on Turn 3, but if players don't draw Wiccan on Turn 3, there's a chance they have drawn Iron Lad, who may copy Wiccan's ability, or Jubilee, who may draw and play Wiccan (if he's the top deck card). They can then proceed to set up lanes for The Living Tribunal or Onslaught and Iron Man, even if Magik hasn't been drawn yet, and Mystique's inclusion could be comboed with The Living Tribunal, Onslaught, or Iron Man.

Best Marvel Snap Wiccan Decks: High Magic EVO

Players who enjoy playing High Evolutionary decks will be happy to learn that Wiccan can be slotted into High Evo decks as long as they meet the card's requirement. (Picture: Untapped.gg)

It's not surprising that Wiccan could possibly synergize with a High Evolutionary deck, which is still gaining momentum within the meta following the last few card drops like Ajax, Cassandra Nova, and, more recently, Marvel Boy. However, while the main priority for a High Evo deck is to gain power, not spend it, Wiccan's inclusion does feel like it may not work, but once players have met Wiccan's requirement, it's still a straightforward deck to play nonetheless.

This High Evo deck comes from Marvel Snap content creator ReZ Snapper and features a couple of low-cost cards to help players meet Wiccan's conditions, like Sunspot and Misty Knight, but also includes Psylocke, which could be played on Turn 2, but if not, Kate Bishop can fulfill this slot by adding two random Arrows to their hand that can be played much later. Nico Minoru will provide this deck with additional utility with her spells, and Maria Hill will give them a random two-Cost card, which has proven to be a more reliable one-Cost drop than Agent 13.

Lastly, retaining the Moon Girl and She-Hulk package allows She-Hulk to be discounted for every unspent Energy achieved once Wiccan's condition is met. Lastly, they'll have Cyclops and The Hulk, who'll benefit from the High Evo's ability to ensure their opponent doesn't gain priority on locations; however, Cyclops could be countered by Luke Cage but still help to meet Wiccan's requirement and get that Energy.

Best Marvel Snap Wiccan Decks: Wiccan-Energy Zoo

As expected, Zoo decks continues to benefit from the latest batch of card releases as Wiccan be be played alongside Kate Bishop and Marvel Boy. (Picture: Untapped.gg)

The Zoo archetype gets another week of playtime, which has been on quite the comeback tour recently due to some outstanding card drops that have made these decks feel more impactful following Gilgamesh's release. Alongside Caiera, thus far, this archetype has greatly benefitted lately at the start of the season with Kate Bishop and Marvel Boy's release, and Wiccan could fit quite nicely within this archetype, too.

This Energy-themed Zoo deck from Marvel Snap content creator Ankh works similarly to the previous High Evo deck, where the trade-off is spending Energy to gain more Energy, and they'll have that with Sunspot's inclusion. There are other one-Cost card drops added into this deck, like Nebula and Squirrel Girl, but they also have strong two-Cost cards like Psylocke, Kate Bishop, and Cable to give players an extra card drawn from their opponent's deck.

Should players not be able to draw Wiccan on Turn 3 from the extra energy from Psylocke, they can play one of the other one-Cost card drops, Caiera, Marvel Boy, or Iron Lad, that may hit Wiccan before he can be played the next turn. They'll also have the benefit of playing Zabu to discount Iron Lad or Wiccan along with the previously mentioned cards before Blue Marvel is on board to give all played cards the much-needed Energy buff.
