Marvel Snap developer Second Dinner has officially announced their brand new season for February 2025, which promises to bring stability and order with the latest card releases. This is another themed season after an upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film, the first of two card releases; Sam Wilson / Captain America is the featured card for the Season Pass.
Like with past Season Pass cards, a new variant for the spotlight card becomes available to claim through the tracker, but the more important question is how does Sam Wilson fair on the new battlegrounds of Marvel Snap? This guide addresses this and more by looking at the card's confirmed abilities, highlighting its key synergies and top counters, plus features three decks for Snappers to include Sam Wilson / Captain America at launch in Marvel Snap.
Marvel Snap Sam Wilson / Captain America Card Abilities Explained
Marvel Snap's latest season is themed on the upcoming Marvel Studios film Captain America: Brave New World, released to theatres globally on 14th February 2025. As such, a few characters from the film will be crossing over to the battlefield of Marvel Snap, which one character, Sam Wilson, is already in-game under another prominent moniker, the Falcon.
As mentioned, Sam Wilson is already in Marvel Snap, but for this season, he assumes the Captain America mantle much like he did in the comics and the MCU and Marvel Snap as a two-Cost and three Power card. This card generates the Cap's Shield token card, a one-Cost, and one Power card, added to a random location at "Game Start," which has an Ongoing ability allowing it to be moved.
The Cap's Shield token card has an Ongoing ability, which, firstly, cannot be destroyed, and if it moves to "Cap's location," it will give Cap +2 Power. Depending on whether the Sam Wilson / Captain America is in their hand at the start of the game or eventually in their hand, they can, at minimum, move Cap's Shield twice a game, but with key synergies like Ongoing and Move decks for example, they can maximize the token card's potential.
Do watch out for potential counters like Echo, Red Guardian, and Enchantress that can remove or turn off Sam Wilson / Captain America and/or the Cap's Shield's abilities, while Kingpin, Scream, and Shadow King will remove or reset cards' power. Sam Wilson / Captain America will be available for Snappers to acquire in-game as the Season Pass reward card and a variant card to claim at Level 50 and will likely be available for purchase from the Token Shop for 6,000 Collector's Tokens at the start of the next season.
Best Marvel Snap Sam Wilson / Captain America Decks: Two-Winged Move
Based on the footage provided in the February 2025 Developer Update video for Marvel Snap, Sam Wilson / Captain America can work with a few deck archetypes like Ongoing, Move, and Zoo decks. The Cap's Shield token card also synergizes with Steve Rogers' Captain America, granting the card the +2 Power buff; this opens the potential of a Captain archetype.
The first spotlighted deck is an Ongoing Move deck as provided by Marvel Snap content creator ReZ Snapper, which, with some key cards, can maximize this card's potential. The centerpieces of this deck are Madame Web, Kraven, and Hercules together as a Move package with Human Torch and Vulture to be played and move across the board to gain power, which will discount Miles Morales, making it accessible to be in early turns (likewise for Cap's Shield, if Sam Wilson and Hercules are at the same location Hercules would move it away).
This deck also pairs these cards with Echo to counter any Ongoing cards played at its location and Ant-Man and Captain America to synergize with the Cap's Shield. We also have Marvel Boy, which will buff Ant-Man, Echo, Human Torch, and the Cap's Shield token card once it's in play with Heimdall as the endgame card to move all cards to the left with Hercules, likely moving a card to another card to end the game.
Best Marvel Snap Sam Wilson / Captain America Decks: X-Wing Machine
Another great synergistic deck for Sam Wilson / Captain America is the Ongoing Spectrum deck, which prioritizes maximizing power achieved with a handful of cards before Spectrum can be played to buff all Ongoing cards in play. This iteration of the Ongoing Spectrum deck adds a unique twist with Lockdown-style mechanics to prevent key cards from being countered like the Cap's Shield token card.
This locked-in deck from Marvel Snap content creator Tuccrr features cards allowing Snappers to control lanes or locations with Jean Grey and War Machine to avoid being restricted to playing in her lane. This will let them double up on Ongoing abilities with Moonstone, which can be paired with Ant-Man, Mojo, and Mister Fantastic; the latter card could work with Ms. Marvel to spread power across the board.
Captain America and Sam Wilson can work together once Cap's Shield is moved to either location before locking it down with Professor X. With War Machine onboard, they can play Spectrum anywhere as long as she isn't location-restricted by the likes of Knowhere, for example, to hit all Ongoing cards to gain the power buff.
Best Marvel Snap Sam Wilson / Captain America Decks: Captain Ka-Zoo
The final spotlighted deck mentioned earlier, the Zoo or Ka-Zoo archetype, has received plenty of support through multiple card releases in 2024, like Gilgamesh, Marvel Boy, and Kate Bishop. Sam Wilson / Captain America isn't the only card from the new season that can be factored into Zoo decks, as Joaquin Torres' Falcon has been touted as a potential card for Zoo decks, but that will be discussed in a future guide.
Naturally, with Zoo decks, this deck archetype has multiple synergies to try out, but importantly, Snappers will need to protect their one-Cost cards from Killmonger. This wilding deck from Marvel Snap content creator DenHearthstone sees the Ka-Zoo archetype support any one-Cost cards of their choosing, but we've featured Ant-Man, Squirrel Girl, and the one-Cost cards generated from Shanna the She-Devil, and Kate Bishop / Hawkeye which helps discount Mockingbird.
Caiera will protect these cards to avoid being targeted by Killmonger, but once Sam Wilson / Captain America is on board, remember to move Cap's Shield to its location so that the card gains +2 Power and buffs either Ant-Man or Dazzler. Likewise, these cards will receive power buffs from Marvel Boy, Ka-Zar, Blue Marvel, and Spectrum to target all the Ongoing cards and secure Snappers a victory.
