The War of the Nine Realms is ending in the final week of the current season for the card battler Marvel Snap, as players are already looking towards the December 2024 season, which sees a crossover with NetEase Games' Marvel Rivals. While this crossover is about a week away, the final card release is more imminent as the ferocious god slayer, Gorr the God Butcher, has descended to the battlegrounds of this card battler.

Much like previous characters appearing this season, Gorr has appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe quite recently, with the Necrosword in hand, but will its in-game counterpart have more presence gameplay-wise? Snappers considering welcoming this god slayer to dominate their opponents in-game can read through this guide, which details its abilities, best synergies and counters, and three decks to try with Gorr for Marvel Snap.

Marvel Snap Gorr The God Butcher Card Abilities Explained

With a bloodthirsty vow "to slay all the gods," the menacing Gorr the God Butcher has spent eons slaying gods and those that got in his way from accomplishing his goal. He has achieved this feat with the All-Black the Necrosword, an ancient symbiote weapon that had bonded with Gorr, empowering him with immense power, power he'll be bringing to Marvel Snap.

At release, Gorr the God Butcher will be a six-Cost and -1 Power card with quite the god-like power, which could be seen as one of the more versatile cards currently in-game. This card has an Ongoing ability for which it gains +2 Power for every On Reveal card currently on the board/in-play, and it synergizes well with more than half of the current card collection.

More specifically, there are a few deck archetypes and cards that best work with Gorr the God Butcher, like Pixie, Ravonna Renslayer, Agent Venom, Phastos, Mister Negative, and Anti-Venom to discount or flip cards' Costs and Powers, and Magik to extend the game by one turn. It can be easily countered by Echo, Goose, Cosmo, Rogue, Red Guardian, Enchantress, Alioth, and Shang-Chi, but Armor or Caeira can prevent Shang-Chi from targeting Gorr.

Nevertheless, those interested in acquiring Gorr the God Butcher can look towards the in-game Token Shop, where the card will be available during its release week when Snappers can spend 6,000 Collector's Tokens to add it to their Collection. Alternatively, they can spend Spotlight Keys to unlock Spotlight Caches, where the card will be available alongside base and variant versions for Gorr, Havok, and Legion.

Best Marvel Snap Gorr The God Butcher Decks: Gorr Bounces

Gorr the God Butcher synergizes with plenty of On Reveal cards and deck archetypes, so Snappers should have no qualms in finding a deck they enjoy playing with. As Gorr requires On Reveal cards to gain the maximum power, the best and earliest ways to build a deck with low-Cost On Reveal cards to ensure that Gorr gains the maximum power it can during the match.

Naturally, the Bounce archetype seems like a great and natural fit for Gorr as it has plenty of low-Cost On Reveal cards in this spotlighted deck from Marvel Snap content creator Ankh. With Black Swan included, which can set one-Cost cards to 0 when the card is activated, they can rely on Nico Minoru to either give itself or another card more power or change a location if needed.

With the inclusion of Falcon, Toxin, and Beast to return cards to their hand, they can play Mysterio and Hit-Monkey on Turn 5 before activating Black Swan. This should allow them to easily play Gorr on the final turn, but keep an eye out for a potential counter that may prevent them from winning the match.

Best Marvel Snap Gorr The God Butcher Decks: Negatively Gorr

As mentioned before, Gorr synergizes well with Ravonna Renslayer, Magik, and Mister Negative to help players discount Gorr and get it out on the final turn with other valuable cards. These cards all feature in one of the game's most popular deck archetypes, the Mister Negative or Negative decks, in which the main objective is to flip the cards' Costs and Powers with Mister Negative and go absolutely crazy!

We have spotlighted similar decks for our Anti-Venom and Surtur deckbuilding guide, but this time around, it loses Frigga, Wong, and a few other cards more important ones. This negative-inspired deck from Marvel Snap content creator dddrewsky pairs Ravonna Renslayer, Magik, and Mister Negative with Jane Foster to ensure that they get the important flipped cards like Cassandra Nova, Sage, Iron Man, and of course, Gorr.

Additionally, this deck adds Black Panther and Arnim Zola to give Snappers another strategy of playing Zola on top of Black Panther or Gorr. They'll also have Psylocke to give them extra power, but they can swap it out for Hope Summers if they don't get Mister Negative into their hand by Turn 4.

Best Marvel Snap Gorr The God Butcher Decks: Symbiote Power

Another playstyle that Gorr can synergize effectively is with a deck that features cards that can set cards' Power like Bast, Pixie, and Agent Venom. Therefore, they'll need to build a deck with On Reveal cards with low Power values for Gorr to gain as much power as possible while causing some disruption to opponents.

As such, this venomized powered deck from Marvel Snap content creator ReZ Snapper places these cards at the forefront as Pixie will shift the base Costs of all cards in the deck, meaning there's a chance that Gorr wouldn't have been six-Cost if it didn't start in their hand. They can bump up the cards' Power in both hand and deck with Bast and Agent Venom, and Kate Bishop is factored in as the card generates two Arrows, which may add two On Reveal cards to their hand.

Thena's inclusion can help gain location priority fairly easily as long as they stick to playing two cards once they are in play, while Silver Sable and Cassandra Nova gain their power by stealing from their opponents. Lastly, Iron Man and Gorr will finish the last turns, which, if Pixie targets it, Mystique can also be played out, copying either Iron Man or Gorr to end the match.
