December 2024 season of Marvel Snap opens the portals of the Multiverse to welcome the heroes from NetEase Games' superhero team-based PvP shooter Marvel Rivals. As announced by Marvel Games a few weeks ago, a crossover was planned between the two Marvel titles, confirmed by Second Dinner as the theme of the latest season of the popular card battler.
The "Marvel Rivals" season has officially launched for Marvel Snap, and a few familiar faces made their in-game debut, including the official announcer and face of Marvel Rivals, Galacta! This guide will detail everything we know about the Daughter of Galactus, including her card abilities, key synergies, best counters, and three decks to spotlight Galacta in Marvel Snap.
Marvel Snap Galacta Card Abilities Explained
As the new season of Marvel Snap is themed around the launch of Marvel Rivals, a few notable characters will leave the realms to join a growing roster of heroes currently available in Marvel Snap. One prolific character making her debut in-game is the announcer, who can be heard across promotional materials and in-game, the Daughter of Galactus, Galacta.
This cosmic entity appeared in the Galacta: Daughter of Galactus series, for which she had been spending most of her upbringing on Earth consuming alien lifeforms who threaten the planet to satisfy her cosmic hunger. While she has vowed to live a peaceful life, far removed from her father, Galacta will continue to protect her adoptive homeworld and all "sentient life forms" from any and all threats, Galactus included, even in battle.
Upon her release, Galacta is a four-Cost and six Power card with a cosmic ability supporting her allies in battle. Galacta has a Common Ability, which, when in play, is the first card played at another location each turn revealed with +3 Power.
There are a few things to remember about Galacta: she only grants the +3 Power buff to the first card played at a different location from where Galacta was played, and secondly, she grants the card the Power buff first before its ability is revealed. An example is playing Black Panther first, which means that Galacta grants the card +3 Power, which, when revealed, the card is now 8 Powered before its ability is triggered as Black Panther's resolved power is +16 by the end of that turn.
This ability works effectively well with cards that generate clones or duplicates like Mister Sinister, Brood, Absorbing Man, Scarlet Spider after it's activated, and Ultron. Galacta also synergizes with cards that thrive on receiving power buffs, like Deadpool, Kitty Pryde, Daiken, Sebastian Shaw, Thor, Beta Ray Bill, and Black Panther, to name a few.
As for acquiring the Daughter of Galactus for the Collection, she is available exclusively through the December 2024 Season Pass. However, the developer has not mentioned in the latest developer post whether it will be available via the Token Shop at the start of the January 2025 season.
Best Marvel Snap Galacta Decks: Galacta Locks It Down
Galacta has quite the significant power buffing threshold, which means she's quite a powerful card on release, and her ability will demand players to be more strategic when playing cards at locations. As she synergizes with a plethora of power-hungry cards and strong deck archetypes, the Lockdown archetype may be one of the underrated playstyles to slot in Galacta.
In light of recent changes to specific cards related to this specific archetype, there are a few new additions to guarantee getting the core cards into their hand before play. This cosmic Lockdown deck from Marvel Snap content creator Ankh keeps the combo of Nebula, Storm, and Professor X together; however, following Storm's nerf, Zabu features prominently in Lockdown decks as it discounts Storm's cost, which Galacta benefits from.
War Machine is another card that benefits from the Zabu discount, which allows Snappers to not worry about Ebony Maw locking down a location and makes it more accessible for The Infinaut to be played anywhere on the board. Lastly, Hope Summers has been factored for Energy generation as Galacta and Namora will buff cards and have the flexibility of The Vision to swing locations in their favor.
Best Marvel Snap Galacta Decks: Gali Surfing The Waves
With Galacta being another card that focuses on buffing cards' Power value, naturally, this card feels welcomed in the deck that matches this type of playstyle. One of the best and most consistent deck archetypes that Galacta can be included in is the Silver Surfer deck, as she'll be synced with specific cards that are pivotal in buffing cards in play, in the hand and the deck.
Much like her father once did, Galacta gets to ride the cosmic waves of the Multiverse with the Silver Surfer in this deck from Marvel Snap content creator ReZ Snapper. The key synergies for Galacta in this specific deck ensure that most cards in play, in the hand, and the deck, are receiving the power buffs from Galacta and other sources like Forge, Okoye, Silver Surfer, Gwenpool, and Absorbing Man if it copies either card's ability.
They may either receive a cost reduction or a power buff from Phastos, while Agony buffs the card she merges with, and Luna Snow and Hope Summers grant them energy to use the next turns. As for the cards to buff, Brood (and its Broodling) and Sebastian Shaw will be the targets, with the Silver Surfer being the final card to play as it buffs all three Cost cards, including the aforementioned Brood and Sebastian Shaw.
Best Marvel Snap Galacta Decks: Bow Down Before Galacta
We're saving the best for last, as it was evident in the Developer Update video that Galacta indeed synergizes with her estranged father, the Devourer of Worlds Galactus. To make this possible, the main objective is to reduce location priority from their opponent before playing Galactus, which can be achieved with Clog-based cards.
However, to make them more accessible to play, they will need cards to reduce their costs or grant Snappers energy. This is the core objective of this delectable cosmic deck from Marvel Snap content creator dddrewsky, which packages groups of cards together before their opponents kneel before Galacta.
This first package is Ravonna Renslayer discounting Green Goblin and Hobgoblin while playing Selene will afflict their lowest Powered card and The Hood, which can be sent to their opponent's side with Viper or Annihilus, generates a Demon. This should make it possible to play Galacta before Galactus, for which they'll also have a few tech cards like Shang-Chi and Alioth to deal with any possible counters that may swing locations for a victory.
