NetEase Games has been extremely busy generating plenty of excitement for their upcoming release, the superhero team-based PvP shooter Marvel Rivals. Alongside the daily news announcements (h/t Miller Ross) posted across their social media channels, featuring a confirmed playable character with a Rivals Assemble video, each hero also received a new cosmetic skin that will be available to acquire in-game.
Over the past weekend, which started with Black Panther's Bast's Chosen skin, the developer confirmed three more stunning cosmetics for the Duelist character, Frank Castle / Punisher, and the Strategist characters, Adam Warlock and the God of Mischief Loki. All characters are gaining unique skins that reference their comic book and Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) appearance worth for any character mains.
The first of these announcements was for Adam Warlock, which the developer announced on 16th November 2024, the character's new cosmetic skin. Joining some prominent Guardians of the Galaxy members, the Strategist character's new cosmetic skin is inspired by the character's MCU debut in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which the film released in 2023.
In keeping with familiar inspirational themes, the God of Mischief, Loki, may perhaps have the most highly anticipated cosmetic skin, as the developer announced on 17th November 2024. The titular Strategist character's new cosmetic skin is primarily inspired by the character's final look from the MCU series, Loki Season 2, as he adopted the title of the God of Time at the end of the season.
More recently, the developer spotlighted The Punisher as the daily featured character; however, unlike some characters previously, the character's new cosmetic skin is not inspired by its MCU appearances over the years. Instead, it looked towards the pages of Marvel Comics as announced on 18th November 2024 that the Punisher's new skin, Punisher 2099, is inspired by a similar or exact design from its appearance in Punisher 2099 (1993) #1.
For weeks, it wasn't known how players would be able to acquire these newly announced cosmetics for each of its playable heroes until the first Developer Vision video. While it remains unclear where the cosmetic skins will pop up, players can browse the in-game Store or may acquire them from the Season 0 Battle Pass or as a potential reward for completing Galacta's Quest missions, but details have yet to be confirmed.
