We're six days into the global countdown for the release of the superhero team-based PvP shooter Marvel Rivals heading to consoles and PCs in December 2024. Developer NetEase Games has been assembling a vast array of heroes and villains across the Multiverse, and as such, each receives new character promo videos highlighting their skills and abilities.
Unfortunately for the game's developer, they leaked Day Six's hero as the latest Rivals Assemble video is for the Vanguard class character, Groot. Despite this, players have speculated about the new announcement for this "sentient alien tree," and we don't have to wonder anymore.
In light of NetEase Games accidentally leaking the next Rivals Assemble video for Guardians of the Galaxy members, the exuberant yet powerful "sentient alien tree" better known as Groot, many players had to wait around 12 am UTC for what the next announcement reveal could be. As we have seen with past heroes, like Rocket Raccoon and the Asgardian God of Thunder, Thor, Groot's exclusive skin is lifted from the character's appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
Like fellow Guardian, Rocket Raccoon, Groot's skin, available in-game at launch, is lifted from the character's more recent MCU appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Those who've kept up with the character's MCU journey will understand why the developer had opted to select this boisterous skin for the lovable hero but all we can say is, "I Am Groot!"
As we continue to get closer to the game's launch in December 2024 for PCs, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles, all announced heroes, including Captain America, the Winter Soldier Bucky Barnes, and Psylocke, will be "unlocked and free-to-play at launch and beyond!" We are still unsure how these recently announced skins will be acquired in-game, for which we'll provide a follow-up article closer to launch on how they can be obtained in Marvel Rivals.
