A new era has begun in the Spanish League of Legends Superliga. After several announcements and surprises from its teams, the first day of its 2022 season gave a lot to talk about.
The opening of the tournament had some interesting duels, however, all the public both in Europe and in the Americas gathered through Twitch to see the expected duel and debut between KOI, squad founded by Ibai Llanos and Gerard Piqué, against the legendary Catalan club FC Barcelona, who announced their entry into the league last October.
In front of more than 300,000 viewers in the combined broadcasts of the LVP and the Spanish content creator, KOI achieved a masterful display of power, in what was their first real test after their showmatches with Karmine Corp, champions of the European Masters, during the weeks leading up to the start of the season.
While Barça was able to contain and even embarrass their opponents at the top lane during the first minutes, KOI was quick to respond with several series of kills both in the bot lane and in the neutral target pits, which opened an advantage that increased with the passage of the game.
Thus, hand in hand with Rafa "Rafitta" Zapata's Jinx and Jørgen "Hatrixx" Elgåen's Vex, Ibai's squad continued to increase its gold difference to more than 10,000 so that by minute 20, KOI had already managed to break through the base of Barça Esports.
The play that would define the match came a few moments later, where when trying to capture the vision of the Baron's pit, the Barça's players were flanked and delivered an ace to their rivals, so they had no choice but to watch their nexus fall shattered at the hands of KOI.
This way, the new season of the Spanish Superliga has started in the best way possible, while also breaking its own viewership record from the hands of what seems to be, will be one of the teams to beat during the course of 2022.
