Spanish football giants FC Barcelona, home to iconic players like Lionel Messi and Ronaldinho, are looking to enter League of Legends esports via China's LPL.
According to reports from 2PlayBook, the Blaugrana club wants to enter the League of Legends competitive scene by sponsoring one of the LPL’s franchise teams, just as PSG has been doing with Talon Esports on the PCS since mid-2020.

According to their report, FC Barcelona will implement this formula to save the costs of starting a franchise, such as acquiring the initial license to compete, which is valued at more than five million euros.
Likewise, 2PlayBook confirmed that the club already has a business plan to utilize this co-branding through content, sponsorships, and merchandising to generate income. It's worth pointing out some of the LPL teams already generate more than ten million euros in income annually.

Currently, FC Barcelona has esports teams in Rocket League, eFootball PES, and Hearthstone.
At the moment, Tencent, Riot Games' parent company and LPL organizer, has been working closely with the club to make this arrival in the Chinese league possible, with the chosen team set to be revealed soon.
