In Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, weapon fusion will be your primary method of upgrading weaponry of your character.
Fusing is simply a process of combining your weapons so that one weapon can "take" qualities of other weapons you don't plan to use.
This is particularly useful because in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity each character has only 20 slots for weapons, and you will soon find yourself flooded with all kinds of weapons, and since you can't store them all, it's best to find some use for them.
And the best way to use them is to upgrade the weapons you plan to keep!
Where to upgrade weapons?
Weapons are upgraded at the blacksmith.
You can find Hylian Blacksmith Guild to the northeast of Hyrule Castle, as it can be seen on the map below.

It is not available from the start of the game, but it will be able to visit it after completing the second level in chapter one when you will receive the quest to open the blacksmith.
There, you will find a cheerful blacksmith named Cedro, who can either upgrade your weapons (Fuse Weapons) or you can sell him the weapons you don't want and receive Rupees in return.
We are here to learn how to fuse weapons, so you will select Fuse Weapons.
How to upgrade weapons?
Besides weapons that will be used as materials, the blacksmith will also ask for rubies, so you will need to have enough before going to him to do the fusion. The price varies depending on the level, amount of weapons fused, etc.
The first thing you will need to do is to select a character whose weapons you want to fuse.

On the right side of the character selection screen, you will be presented with some basic info, including character level, weapon style and the number of weapons in the inventory.
When you choose a character, you'll see the character's inventory with the currently equipped weapon being highlighted blue.
If you want to equip some other weapon, select it and press the X button.

On the right part of the inventory screen, you can see information about the currently selected weapon, including name, attack power, bonuses and attached skills.
You'll notice how skills have different symbols next to them. In order to get special bonuses applied to your weapon, you'll need to match the shapes of those skill symbols.
When you select a weapon you want to upgrade, the next step is to select the weapons you want to use as fusing materials.
You can select up to five weapons to be used as a fuse material, but those weapons will disappear after the process is done because they will be melted and used to strengthen the weapon you selected for upgrade.
So you need to be careful and choose wisely which weapons you want to use for materials, the process is irreversible.

On the lower right side of the screen, you'll see how upgrades will affect the weapon you are improving, while on the upper right you are seeing currently selected weapon. Pressing the right stick will toggle between those two tabs.
A new skill slot will be unlocked on the weapon for every 5 levels fused into it.
The blacksmith will use the first available skill from the fuse materials, so make sure to select your fuse material in the right order if you are looking for a specific skill to incorporate into your weapon.
A weapon with the desired skill should be selected first when you are picking weapons to use as a fuse material.
And that's it! These are the basics of weapon fusion in Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity Weapon.
Enjoy crafting new and powerful weapons!!
