How to open and find vaults in Fortnite

Fortnite's vaults are a great way to gain loot early in the game and get kitted out and ready for battle. While looting a vault is the easy part, knowing where to find one is as hard as opening one.

If you don't know how to open vaults in Fortnite or you struggle open or find them, this guide has you covered. We'll detail exactly how to open vaults and give you the locations for finding them when landing on the island in Fortnite.

How to open a vault in Fortnite?

Vaults in Fortnite require at least two people to open before looting the vaults' content. This can be achieved by simply standing in front of the scanner with your fellow team member to get it to open.

This extra player can be on your team when playing Duos, Trios, Squads, or with the aid of an NPC. If you want to claim all the loot for yourself, you can also be more devious and use a downed player to meet its two-person requirements.

Hilariously, you can also use a chicken as your second person to get the vault doors to open. The game counts a chicken as another player and will still open, allowing you to claim all the loot.

Where to find a vault in Fortnite?

There are eight vaults located in Fortnite, and below is an outline of all the map locations and the details surrounding them. Once you land at the locations, make your way into the building and head downstairs to find the vault as quickly as possible.

The vault locations are as follows: 

• Seven Outpost I: Towards the cliffs on the edge of the map, south of The Minnows.
• Seven Outpost II: North-west of Logjam Lumberyard towards the mountain range.
• Seven Outpost III: Found east of Catastrophe Crater and south of the entrance to the Seven Outpost III. 
• Seven Outpost IV: Located south-east of Chonker's Speedway across the highway, in the far corner of the map.
• Seven Outpost V: Located towards the west of Pinnacle Peak across the stream.
• Seven Outpost VI/Dispatch Depot: Now replaced with the Dispatch Depot. This might be a change for the season, and it might come back later in a different spot, but the sixth outpost is missing for now.
• Seven Outpost VII: Found South of Launchpad Island south-east of the Mighty Monument island.
• Command Cavern: Located just north of Pinnacle Peak.
