Final Fantasy 7 has a huge cast of memorable characters, which are being revamped and brought to life in the upcoming Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth — the second entry into the Final Fantasy 7 Remake project. The story picks up after Cloud and his band of allies leave Midgar in pursuit of Sephiroth. Anyone who's played the original knows that there are still some major characters to meet once the party steps outside Midgar's walls, such as Cid.
A mainstay character across the Final Fantasy series in name only, Cid Highwind shows up in Final Fantasy 7 as a short-tempered, chain-smoking Dragoon. He's also the owner and pilot of the ever-useful Airship. In the original Final Fantasy 7, Cid is a playable character that can be added to your party. So, will Cid also be a playable character in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth?
Can You Play As Cid In Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth?
Unfortunately, no. Despite the game being set to release in February 2024, it's already been confirmed that Cid will not be a playable character in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. His role in the game can be likened to that of Red XIII towards the end of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, where he will primarily be an AI controlled party member. or supporting character. The same has been said for Vincent Valentine.
It's likely that Cid will have more of an active, playable role in the final installment of the Remake project. Though more information is likely a ways off.
Will The Airship Be In Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth?
Given that Cid is set to play more of a supporting role in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and that Creative Director Tetsuya Nomura has stated that Rebirth will end at the Forgotten Capital, it's unlikely that the Airship will be useable in the game. It'll likely make an appearance, but we may not see Cloud and company embark on journeys across Gaia in it.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is set to release on February 29, 2024. The game will be a PlayStation 5 console exclusive.
