Imagine spending hundreds of hours trying to beat Elden Ring, getting hacked and slashed by monsters and dragons, only to die repeatedly. Then, after much struggle, some players would arrive at that sweet feeling of success, finally beating the video game. Well, what if we told you that there was another challenge waiting for you, ye Tarnished? No, we're not talking about the award-nominated video game. But rather an Elden Ring board game on Kickstarter.
Launched on Kickstarter on 22nd November 2022, Elden Ring: The Board Game has gone viral, raising over $2 million to develop and distribute the tabletop to eager fans very soon. The board game is developed by Steamforged Games and will feature everything Elden Ring players have grown to love about the AAA title.
Interestingly, Steamforged Games initially published the Kickstarter page to raise $180,000 to help progress the development and distribution of the Elden Ring: Board Game. However, the company completely blew through their expectations and reached over 1000% of what they initially asked for, raising $2,200,000+ in a few days. What an accomplishment.
So, how does the Elden Ring: The Board Game work? Well, it's similar to other tabletops, but of course, it differs in a way that it's based on the Elden Ring game and features an open-world layout, allowing modular exploration. In addition, the tabletop features quest books, battle grids, character customization, battle stance systems, deckbuilding, and diceless combat.

Here's a little summary of Elden Ring: The Board Game: "Welcome to the tabletop Lands Between, a mysterious and otherworldly realm where the landscape is rich and varied. You find yourself in Limgrave, where an epic campaign of evolving quests and intriguing side quests awaits. You may undertake your campaign cooperatively, with up to three fellow Tarnished; solo, if you’re feeling brave; or in story mode, where you’ll have more time to spend wandering the landscape."
"Whichever mode you choose, you can always return to play a different way at a later date. The campaign is fully replayable, with a story that evolves with the choices you make. Each session is playable in 90-120 minutes, and the core box campaign will span 40 hours, increasing to 90 hours with the expansions. The Tarnished character you build can also make the entire journey with you, from one region to the next…."
It's quite an in-depth tabletop with many features that seem to provide endless ways to relish Elden Ring: The Board Game, which might be why players of the video game title couldn't wait to get their hands on it. That said, it's also based on one of, if not the best, RPGs of the decade and video game of the year, which should be more than enough to persuade anyone to purchase such an interesting and fun-looking board game.
