With the Elden Ring Nightreign Network Test just around the corner, excitement is building as fans eagerly anticipate what FromSoftware has in store with this surprise co-op roguelike Souls title, which draws heavily from almost every previous Souls game.

However, there’s also growing curiosity about the future of the Elden Ring IP, especially since Shadow of the Erdtree was initially meant to be the last chapter set in the Lands Between. Let’s explore the various opinions and what we can realistically expect for the future of Elden Ring.

Fans Speculate on What’s Next for the Elden Ring IP After NightReign

Fans of Elden Ring have been eagerly anticipating the release of Nightreign, as it marks the studio’s first step toward a roguelike co-op experience, all wrapped in the familiar Elden Ring style we know and love. However, over on the Nightreign subreddit, many fans are left wondering what comes next for the IP - or if it even has a future.

In a Reddit thread titled "So... after Nightreign... this is IT right?... or...," players discuss the uncertain future of Elden Ring. Miyazaki previously stated that Shadow of the Erdtree would be the final DLC for Elden Ring and that they didn’t plan on revisiting the game. However, he also mentioned that they weren’t done with the setting. True to this, the team announced Nightreign a few months later.

Nightreign, of course, isn’t a DLC but rather a multiplayer experience, likely with a short narrative to tie it all together. While Miyazaki’s statement still holds, fans are left wondering if this is the end, or if more could be on the horizon. As one user aptly put it, "From have said they aren't planning a sequel, but they aren't done with the setting. That could either be about Nightreign, or it may mean there will be more in the future."

In essence, Nightreign doesn’t qualify as a new release, so Miyazaki’s statement remains intact. While there’s a chance the Elden Ring setting could return in the future, it’s more likely that the developer will focus on a new experience for now. Who knows - maybe in five or six years, we’ll hear news about Elden Ring 2 or Shadow of the Erdtree 2.
