It was a sight to behold at the awesome MEO Arena venue in Lisbon, Portugal, where some of the best Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) esports teams in the world competed for their share of the $400,000 prize pool in the BLAST Open Season 1 Playoffs.
The no-nonsense single-elimination bracket format meant one mistake could send a team packing. With six teams surviving the thrilling Group Stage, it was do-or-die in front of the live crowd.
Starting with the Quarterfinals, it was MOUZ who made quick work of G2 Esports with a convincing 2-0 victory, while Team Spirit made it past NAVI unscathed with a solid 2-0.
In the Semifinals, Team Vitality put an end to Team Spirit's domination, with a close 2-1 that could have gone either way. On the other side of the bracket, MOUZ shut down the Turkish side Eternal Fire with a 2-0 to make it to the Grand Final.
Kicking off the Grand Final of BLAST Open Season 1 Lisbon with style, Team Vitality devastated MOUZ with a 13-0 clean sweep on Inferno. MOUZ bounced back with vigor, however, winning both Mirage and Dust II with close 13-11 scorelines.
With MOUZ just one map win away from becoming the champions, Team Vitality kicked things into second gear. With ZywOo and Ropz on form, Team Vitality managed to win Nuke 13-7 and finished off MOUZ on Train with another 13-7 score.
With the huge win, Team Vitality's AWPer Mathieu "ZywOo" Herbaut picked up yet another LAN MVP award, putting himself ahead of Oleksandr "s1mple" Kostyljev for most LAN MVP awards from HLTV, with ZywOo on 17 and s1mple on 16.
