Throughout your various playthroughs of Elden Ring, there are going to be a lot of different sights and experiences to uncover. Even in the very beginning, the map is so massive that you can end up stumbling upon somewhere you have never seen before in your previous playthroughs. That is why you should always use your horse to find as much as you can in The Lands Between.
One NPC you could quite easily miss early on is a character known as Patches, but if you're interested in searching for this character, then fear not, we're going to teach you how to find Patches and what's inside his secret chest.

Where To Find Patches In Elden Ring
In case you did not know, Patches is FromSoftware's mascot for their games. Patches has been in many different FromSoftware games and now he is in Elden Ring. It can be pretty easy to miss him as some played through the entirety of Elden Ring without finding him. But he is pretty close to the beginning of the game.
To find Patches for the first time, you will need to be in Limgrave. In Limgrave, go north towards the river that leads into the lake with the dragon. Follow that river and you should find a cave entrance. The cave you are looking for is Murkwater Cave. If you have found this cave, then you are on the right track to finding Patches. Once you have met him here and decided to spare him after the fight, he will appear in multiple locations throughout the game.

What Is In Patches Chest In Elden Ring?
When you first meet Patches in Elden Ring, you meet him by opening his chest in the cave that he is hiding in. Opening this chest ultimately leads you to battle Patches within the cave. If you come close to defeating him, you will have the option to spare his life which will make him become a friendly NPC.
After the battle with him, you can come back to the Murkwater Cave and he will talk to you. You will also see another treasure chest of his that is unopened. But be warned, this treasure chest is actually a trap that teleports you to another location. You will be teleported away to Mistwood which is not too dangerous of an area but very inconvenient to get out of.
