Elden Ring features an array of formidable and equally terrifying bosses that players will encounter throughout The Lands Between. In the game's early stages, Margit the Fell Omen is one such boss you must defeat in the game's early stages.
Margit poses quite an interesting challenge, with his massive stature, enormous staff, and aggressive combat tactics frustrating new and veteran players alike. In this guide, we'll detail how you can defeat Margit the Fell Omen and provide general tips that can aid you in your conquest.
Where to find Margit the Fell Omen in Elden Ring?
To progress to the Legacy Dungeons, you'll need to gain entry to the Stormveil Castle located in the upper area of Limgrave. If you are positioned too far away from the castle, use the Fast Travel system by finding the Site of Lost Grace, Castleward Tunnel.
Margit the Fell Omen needs to be defeated before the dungeons to be unlocked as the boss can be spotted moving north from Limgrave. However, you will encounter a group of enemies before the boss battle with Margit in this area, so do come prepared.
Margit the Fell Omen – General combat tips
Before engaging in combat with Margit, there are a few general tips to get players ready for the incoming battle. Spirit Ash Summons, such as the Lone Wolf Ashes, will be exceptionally useful in battle as they'll provide distractions allowing you to get opportunities to attack the boss.
Going into the battle equipped with a few flasks can help replenish your health meter and Focus Points to cast more spells for magic damage. Additionally, you can summon the sorcerer NPC, Rogier, who can attack Margit with spells for more damage.
The downside to summoning this NPC is that it will increase Margit's health meter; however, he does provide some assistance for taking down the boss. Rogier can be found at a chapel at Stormveil Castle with his gold summon sign on the concrete-paved floor before starting the boss fight.
To gain an advantage over Margit in the early stage of the boss battle, you'll need to purchase Margit's Shackle item, which will hinder him. You can buy this item for 5,000 Runes from trusted vendor Patches in Murkwater Cavern, north of Agheel Lake.
How to defeat Margit, the Fell Omen in Elden Ring?
This boss battle occurs throughout two phases, for which the first phase is somewhat easier to manage. However, it's best to keep your distance from Margit due to his staff's range and how slow his attacks are in the early stage of the battle.
Because of this, you can get in a few chances for some close-up attacks; however, when he does attack, wait a while for the attack to happen before dodging out of harm's way.
When Margit does jump away, he uses ranged attacks like magic projectiles to deal some chip damage, but he will attack you with ranged attacks of his own.
Followingly, if your health is getting low, you will need to time his slow attacks and heal between them. Margit will attempt to hinder your healing using daggers for a ranged attack, but you can avoid this by dodging them before healing.
Once Margit's health bar has been depleted to around 60%, this will signify the second stage of the boss fight. He will lunge at you before slamming his Holy Greathammer to the ground for AoE damage which you can roll towards Margit for some quick attacks.
Margit will now wield a Greathammer alongside his staff and sword, which deals massive magic damage. The boss will also start using new melee attacks instead of the slowed lunges from the first phase.
Instead of waiting for the attacks to happen, you can dodge in reaction to him using his sword, but you can time your attacks when he brings out his great hammer. He will also use more daggers for his ranged attacks. However, they will be more aggressive and frequent.
As his health continues to deplete, Margit will use a combination of attacks with his staff, sword and great hammer that can overwhelm you. Parrying the attacks can be effective, but you'll need to wait for the last moment to dodge the attack.
The attack starts with his staff, following it up with either his sword or hammer as the next attack. You will likely get hit if you don't time the first attack, but as long as you don't fall off the arena and heal whenever possible, you can successfully dodge them with some health taken.
If you dodge his first attack, you may roll through the second attack and possibly land behind the boss. You can land a few quick attacks. However, he will use a tail swipe to attack you, which you'll need to be ready.
Margit will, at some point, use his great hammer to land a massive ground attack which you can avoid. Then, you can either heal or hit him several times during the cooldown before he charges it up again.
You can land a few ranged attacks when he does charge up before he lands another ground attack. Once you can identify his combat patterns, you can dodge his attacks, heal between Margit's cooldown periods and land a few attacks to bring his health down.
Once his health is completely depleted, you will have successfully defeated Margit, the Fell Omen, earning a Talisman Pouch and 8,000 Runes. Additionally, you will receive a trophy attached to defeating the boss as another reward.
From here onward, you can start exploring the Legacy Dungeon: Stormveil Castle to take on new challenges and earn rewards.
