Best Elden Ring starting Keepsake item to choose

As Tarnished across the globe venture into the Lands Between of Elden Ring, created by FromSoftware with lore by George R.R. Martin, deadly foes await. The first boss, however, is the character creation screen, where players need to choose a look (you can change it later) and a starting class as well as one of the nine Keepsake items. In this guide, we outline which of the nine Keepsake items are the best to choose so you can jump in as quickly as possible.

Which Elden Ring Keepsake is best?

Answering the question of which Elden Ring Keepsake item is the best isn't as difficult as it might first appear.

There are a total of nine Keepsakes and 10 options with the first one being "None". While these starting items in Elden Ring via the Character Creation screen provides a brief description, that might not be enough to go on, especially for Soulsborne newbies.

In our opinion, there are only two options that can be considered the "best" in terms of which Elden Ring Keepsakes.

The first is the Golden Seed item that can be used to upgrade your Flasks to restore HP and FP. Possibly the best starting Keepsake to choose, as it allows you to get an additional Flask charge via upgrading at one of the Sites of Grace.

The second option for the best Keepsake in Elden ring is the Crimson Amber Medallion. This is a Talisman that players can equip to increase their character's maximum HP. For beginners who tend to take more hits from enemies, this might be your best option for survival early on in the Lands Between.

Keep in mind that choosing the best Keepsake is likely only important during the early portions of the game. Anything you choose can be acquired later on during normal gameplay.

If you don't like any of our suggestions, simply pick the one that intrigues you the most. There are really no wrong choices.

For example, masochists might want to make the game even more difficult, choosing the Wretch class and "None" as the starting item.
