Let's discuss the story length of Dragon's Dogma 2, alongside some hints about the time it would take to fully complete the game, seeing everything it has to offer.
Update on 22 March 2024: We've updated this article with the latest information from our experience with Dragon's Dogma 2 to bring you a better estimate of how long the game's story takes to beat.
How Long is Dragon's Dogma 2's Story?
If you are focusing just on Dragon's Dogma 2's story, you should put aside between 40 and 60 hours of gameplay time.
We used to believe it was between 30 and 40 hours. According to the third-party site How Long To Beat (HLTB), the original's average time to complete the story was 32 and a half hours. Combine this with the fact that Dragon's Dogma 2 director Hideaki Itsuno noted in an interview with GameInformer that the game's campaign isn't drastically different from the original, and we come to roughly 30 to 40 hours, depending on player skill.
For reference, the GameInformer article notes that (through a translator), Hideaki Itsuno said:
For players that only focus on the things [to] go through the [game's campaign], the playtime itself shouldn't change that dramatically from the first game. For the people that want to do everything, that see many things and are like, 'Oh, I want to do this thing, oh that looks interesting,' well, we put a lot of effort into adding as many elements as possible for this. There's many things that could catch players' attention and for those people, they will probably find their playtime significantly longer.
While the average of 30 to 40 hours to complete the game's story does seem reasonable, the time to fully complete Dragon's Dogma 2 is much more difficult to accurately pin down.
How Long To Fully Complete Dragon's Dogma 2?
Full completion, also known as seeing everything, exploring every corner of the huge map, and finishing up all the side content, is much more difficult to ascertain. The developers have indicated (via a PlayStation Blog post) that Dragon's Dogma 2's world itself is roughly four times bigger than that of the original, stating:
Dragon’s Dogma 2 leverages Capcom’s RE Engine, resulting in a densely populated world about four times the size of the original, woven with the latest graphical technology, physics technology and character AI to immerse you in its fantasy world.
Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen completionist runs clocked in at an average of 113 hours, according to How Long to Beat. Therefore, judging by the comments from the developers, alongside the HLTB data, we expect Dragon's Dogma 2 completionists runs will take well over 120 hours! We'll update you as soon as official information becomes available, as this is just an educated guess.
