Can You Heal The Loss Gauge In Dragon's Dogma 2?

The Loss gauge in Dragon's Dogma 2 affects a character's maximum health, and is crucial to surviving the toughest encounters.

Dragon's Dogma 2 features a number of punishing mechanics that aim to make your adventure that much more compelling. One such feature is the Loss gauge, which is a meter that determines how much of your maximum health you can recover after taking damage.

Your health is indicicated by the green bar at the bottom of the screen. When you or your pawns take damage, this bar depletes, leaving behind a gray bar in its place. You can recover this bar with healing items. But, if the bar is black, then this portion of health has been lost and cannot be recovered with typical healing items. So, is there a way to heal this out in the field?

How To Recover Loss Gauge In Dragon's Dogma 2

The Loss gauge can be tricky to deal with if you're fighting particularly long battles as it means your healing items are less effective. At which point, it's a game of who can last the longest.

Unfortunately, there isn't a way to fully recover from the Loss gauge in battle. That is, unless you die and revive yourself or your pawn with a Wakestone. But, you can recover it once the battle is over:

Make Camp

Finding a campsite out in the wild is crucial to surviving outside for long periods of time. You and your party can sleep (as long as you're not ambushed in the night) and recover all of your health. The quality of your camp depends on the camping kit you have available. There's plenty of different types; some allow you to hide better from certain enemies, and others just offer a more comfortable sleep. You'll only need one kit, and you can typically reuse them, so don't overburden yourself by carrying around more than one.

Sleep In An Inn or House

If you're close to a settlement, you can check-in to the local inn and sleep off your damage. This requires a fee, though it's usually small. When resting in settlements, be sure to check your pawns for any signs of Dragonsplague — you'll thank me later. In some larger cities, you'll be able to purchase a house which you can then sleep in at anytime for free.
