It's finally time for the expansion everyone's beeen waiting for as Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty is bringing tons of new content and revamped systems to the game. For players who have been chipping away at an old save or those looking to dive back in, there's a lot of uncertainty about the right way to start Phantom Liberty.
If you're looking to dive right into the new storyline featuring Idris Elba, there's more than one way to go about it. We've got details on whether you should start a new game for Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty and exactly which options are available.
Should you start a new game for Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty?
After plenty of anticipation, Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty is finally bringing a full expansion of new content to players including a new spy thriller storyline featuring sleeper agent Solomon Reed played by the legendary Idris Elba. Before you dive in, there are a few different approaches players can take.
If you have an existing save deep into the game or even in the postgame that you've recently been playing, you can and probably should just stick to that. You'll get a call from one of the Phantom Liberty characters giving you the new quest in Dogtwon, and things will get rolling from there.
If you start a new game or are still early in your Cyberpunk 2077 save file, Phantom Liberty won't be available until after the Evelyn Parker questline. Only after finishing that group of quests and your confrontation with the Voodoo Boys will the Phantom Liberty quests start to trigger.
Can you start a new game and go right to Phantom LIberty?
There is a third option, though CD Projekt Red recommends against it. When you start a new game after the Phantom Liberty expansion is live in Cyberpunk 2077, you'll be given a "Skip Ahead to Phantom Liberty" option.
If you choose this, you'll skip all of the main story quests that precede Phantom Liberty. All of the base game and expansion content will be available. Your attribute points will initially be allocated automatically, but you will be able to reset and redistribute them later.
For players who finished up the main story recently and want to start fresh without plowing through all of those quests again, this might be the right choice. However, anyone who hasn't played in a while may want to start a normal save again anyways to take advantage of revamped systems and new perks that will be available even before the Phantom Liberty storyline kicks off.
