The hyena is one of the best scavengers in Conan Exiles as their prowess surpasses most animals and monsters roaming the map. In particular, they can make formidable foes if they see you as a threat, but their loyalty and strength could make them reliable pet companions.

How To Find Striped & Spotted Hyena Whelps In Conan Exiles

The Striped and Spotted Hyena Whelps in Conan Exiles are the baby variants of their adult forms, the Greater Hyena. While these notorious scavengers have average Health and one of the highest Armor values, having a few Hyenas protecting your home base is a worthy consideration.

Approaching these dangerous beasts may be challenging, given their aggressive behaviors and pack mentality. However, it is still possible to tame these beasts by locating the Whelps, which can be found in the Desert biome of the Exiled Lands and the Isle of Siptah.

When exploring The Exiled Lands, a pack of Striped Hyenas can be located in the area beneath The Unnamed City (E4), near The Slave Road ruins (F5), Executioner’s Entrance ruins (I6), and at Mek-kamoses’ Spire (G7). The Spotted Hyenas, however, are more scarce as they can be located at The Tower of Bats ruins (F5) and surrounding The Summoning Place (G5).

On the Isle of Siptah, it’s unclear which variant of Hyena Whelp you’ll encounter, but they can be found at Witches Pass (C6/7), Grave of the Leviathan (C/D8), Simmi’s Beacon (F12), The Jut vista (K12), Den of the Wolfman vault (M12) and at Southwatch Keep ruins (N7). We advise being cautious when approaching the Hyena Whelps as they may attack, so it’s best to wait until they’re alone before capturing them.

The Whelps can then be placed in an Animal Pen before feeding them food to increase their size and strength. The Shadespiced Raw Succulent and Tough Meat are the best food options for the Hyena Whelps due to how much experience can be earned by raising them in an Animal Pen.

The Animal Pen and Shadespiced food items can be unlocked after learning the Apprentice Tamer Knowledge to gain all the recipes. The pen can be crafted at the Construction Hammer while the Shadespiced Raw Succulent and Tough Meat are cooked on the Stove.

Once fed, it should take four hours to get either a Hyena variant or a Greater Hyena. This can be sped up depending on the type of Animal Pen, for which the hyena will grow much faster in an Armored Animal Pen.
