Conan Exiles Age Of Heroes Companions Explained

During the recent Developer Livestream last month, Funcom lifted the veil on the next era for their survival MMO Conan Exiles by showcasing the new content and features coming soon. Conan Exiles' The Age of Heroes follows the heroic efforts of fellow Exiles, whose honor and glory live forever "song and legend" across the lands.

Players can live up to the heroes and legends whose names continue to live forever by walking alongside fellow heroes with the new Companions feature. This heroic guide discusses everything to know about Companions, including how they work in-game and how to get them in Conan Exiles.

What Are Companions In Conan Exiles Age Of Heroes?

According to the latest developer blog post, Companions is one of the newest content additions to Conan Exiles, arriving in the Age of Heroes Chapter 1 update launching in October 2024. Companions are a new type of Followers, a reliable companion that aids players throughout the Exiled Lands, joining other notable Follower types like pets and Thralls.

The developer revealed that Companions "are not itemized or subjugated into accompanying" players on their adventures. "Instead, they will require commitment and dedication in order to perceive you as the hero they can walk behind," the developer stated in the aforementioned blog post.

What makes Companions significantly different from pets and Thralls is that they will have fully-voiced lines when interacting with them and have unique backstories to explore, which the players can change or shape through decisions players make (so do be aware). Similarly, Companions will bring along new abilities, unique perks, and powers that can be unlocked based on the players' "choices and actions" during the Companions' stories.

How To Get Companions In Conan Exiles Age Of Heroes?

Now that we've explained what Companions are, their in-game functionality, and their significance to players' journies in Conan Exiles, the next important question to ask is how to get them. The developer briefly touched on this question of how players can acquire and welcome these Companions to their bases in the aforementioned blog post.

Currently, the Age of Heroes Chapter 1 is available on the Public Test Server (PTS) for PC only, where they can engage and explore the chapter's new content. Likewise, upon the release of Conan Exiles The Age of Heroes Chapter 1 update this October, the two new Companions, Freya and Liu Fei, included with this chapter, will be made available somewhere in the Exiled Lands.

Players who wish to meet with both or either Companion are to first find them on the Exiled Lands map, which is subject to change as it's currently in its test period, but it's unlikely they'll move to the Isle of Siptah. Once they've been located, interact with these characters, and players will complete various activities for them, including challenges and quests.

Once players complete the associated challenges and quests to flesh out the Companions' backstories, this will Freya and Liu Fei available for players to recruit (should they choose to) and, with that, unlock their related abilities, perks, and powers based on the choices or decisions made. Funcom further added that they can "have multiple companions of the same character with distinct arrangements of perks," which means how they progress in each Companion's story will influence the perks they'll unlock for them.
