Funcom has lifted the veil once more in the Exiled Lands as they revealed new details for the forthcoming season of the survival sandbox game Conan Exiles. The Exiled Lands welcomes the Age of Heroes, the game's third season following the Age of Sorcery and War, which the first Chapter's release has been announced.

Additionally, the publisher highlighted key content additions in the first Chapter, including new Companions, new gameplay systems, and updates to notable features. This forthcoming season will be the first without a Battle Pass system, an in-game feature recently announced to be retired in a previous developer update.

Conan Exiles will introduce the Age of Heroes, which will arrive on consoles and PCs later this year. According to an official press release, Funcom announced that the first Chapter of the Age of Heroes will launch on 1st October 2024 for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles, adding two major features to the survival sandbox game.

The first of the latest content additions are fully-voiced Companion characters, of which two will be introduced in the first Chapter – the Aesir warrior Freya and the Khitan sorcerer Liu Fei. "On these epic journeys, each Companion's abilities will be shaped by what happens, as well as the player's choices," of which the publisher had noted that more fully-voiced Companion characters are expected to arrive in subsequent Chapter releases.

Living Settlements is the next major content addition to Conan Exiles, which this feature allows thralls to become integral inhabitants of players' base settlements. "Not only will they behave like real people, with needs such as food and sleep, but they will also defend their home when threatened, Funcom explained in the press release.

Both key content features will have respective Quality-of-Life (QoL) improvements and bug fixes included in the Age of Heroes Chapter 1 update, which players can anticipate additional patches between each Chapter release moving forward in this season. Additionally, events will be planned for this season; however, details on these limited-time activities have yet to be confirmed.

One last change that will begin in the Age of Heroes Chapter 1 is that the Battle Pass will no longer be a feature in Conan Exiles, a decision explained in a developer update post in June 2024. According to Funcom, this decision comes as the game's "development cycle has evolved," and as such, the time and resources spent creating unique Battle Passes for every Chapter release previously will now be "better spent" across multiple "areas of development."

Nevertheless, they've added that a portion of the work that went into the Battle Pass will be seen in-game in the form of "free content updates and rewards overall." For players concerned about the in-game Shop, the Bazaar will remain a permanent feature in Conan Exiles, which is expected to be refreshed when the Age of Heroes begins.
