With the highly anticipated release of Civilization 7 just a few short months away, their extensive roster just continues to grow. Hawai'i is set to arrive in the Exploration Age, and all the civ-specific bonuses have now been confirmed. On top of that, Civilization 7 will feature the legendary Roman Emperor Charlemagne as a leader that boosts both science and military might.
Civilization 7 reveals Hawai'i and Charlemagne
In the latest Civilization 7 First Look, Charlemagne becomes the latest leader to join an already exciting roster. King of the Franks as early as 768 CE, Charlemagne became one of the most prolific rulers of his time. Fans of Cavalry units may find Charlemagne too good to pass up when Civ 7 arrives.
His unique ability, Father of Europe, gives Military and Science buildings a Happiness adjacency bonus for Quarters. Perhaps the most impactful benefit is that, once unlocked, you'll gain a set number of free Cavalry units any time your civilization enters a Celebration. During that Celebration, your Cavalry units will also have increased combat strength. What better way to celebrate than by wiping out another civilization?
Charlemagne gets a starting bias in favor of rivers, and his agenda will give a solid relationship boost for other civilizations triggering many Celebrations. Rome of course feels like a natural fit in the Antiquity Age, and players may choose to follow that up with the Normans in the Exploration Age. With so many options in the full Civ 7 roster, every player can create their own path with Charlemagne.
Meanwhile, the latest civilization reveal adds an important Polynesianculture with Hawai'i. It would be exciting to see a leader like King Kamehameha added at launch or in a future DLC pack, but the structure of Civ 7 means it's likely there will be multiple civs that don't have a specific matching leader.
Set for the Exploration Age, Hawai'i will be a huge asset for anyone that starts settling near the coast throughout the Antiquity Age. Their unique ability, Moananuiākea, gains culture every time a Settlement expands to a Marine tile along with increased Happiness on Fishing Boats. Hawai'i is both cultural and expanionist, and adjacent farms placeed on Grassland or Tropical tiles will get a culture boost.
