With an official release date closing in, the final road to Sid Meier's Civilization 7 is underway. Every new game is going to have to innovate and change things up, but one thing players can rely on is a diverse cast of leaders and broad selection of civilizations.
They're making some bold gameplay changes in Civ 7 by disconnecting leaders from civilizations to increase customization options as you progress between ages, and additional reveals continue to roll in via official previews or gameplay footage from content creators who got to play an early build of Civ 7. As launch day closes in, we're tracking all Civilization 7 leaders and civilizations that have been confirmed so far.
List of All Civ 7 Leaders
We already know key details like playstyle, unique ability, and historical civilization connections for some of the Civilization 7 leaders. The Civ 7 stream revealing Modern Age gameplay also confirmed that the game will have 26 leaders at launch, including five alternate personas.
All 26 of those included in the base game at launch have been confirmed and are outlined below, but additional leaders will be added via post-launch DLC. We've included any confirmed details here about playstyle, unique ability, and the connected historical civilizations that will be linked to each leader.

Amina
- Playstyle: Cultural Economic
- Historical Civ: Aksum (Antiquity Age)
- Unique Ability: Warrior-Queen of Zazzau (+1 Resource Capacity in Cities. +1 Gold per Age for each Resource assigned to Cities. +5 Combat Stregth on all Units in Plains and Desert.)
Ashoka, World Renouncer
- Playstyle: Diplomatic Expansionist
- Historical Civ: Maurya (Antiquity Age), Persia (Antiquity Age)
- Unique Ability: Dhammaraja (+1 Food in Cities for every 5 excess Happiness. +10% Food in all Settlements during a Celebration. All Buildings gain a +1 Happiness Adjacency for all Improvements.)
Ashoka, World Conqueror (Founders Content Pack DLC)
- Playstyle: Diplomatic Militaristic
- Historical Civ: Maurya (Antiquity Age), Persia (Antiquity Age)
- Unique Ability: Devaraja (+1 Production for every 5 excess Happiness in Cities. +10% Production in Settlements he did not found. +10 Combat Strength against Districts for all Units during a Celebration. Declaring Formal War grants a Celebration.)
Augustus
- Playstyle: Cultural Expansionist

- Unique Ability: Imperium Maius (+2 Production in the Capital for every Town. Can purchase Culture Buildings in Towns. +50% Gold towards purchasing Buildings in Towns.)
Benjamin Franklin
- Playstyle: Diplomatic Scientific
- Historical Civ: America (Modern Age)
- Unique Ability: The First American (Increased Science per Age on Production Buildings in Cities. Increased Production towards constructing Production Buildings. Increased Science per Age from active Endeavors you started or supported. Can have multiple Endeavors of the same type active at a time.)
Catherine
- Playstyle: Cultural Scientific
- Historical Civ: Russia (Modern Age)
- Unique Ability: Star of the North (Increased Culture per Age on displayed Great Works. Buildings with Great Work slots gain an additional slot. Cities settled in Tundra gain Science equal to a percentage of their Culture per turn.)
Charlemagne
- Playstyle: Militaristic Scientific
- Historical Civ: Norman (Exploration Age)
- Unique Ability: Father of Europe (Military and Science Buildings receive a Happiness adjacency for Quarters. Gain a set number of free Cavalry Units, once unlocked, when entering a Celebration. Increased Combat Strength for Cavalry Units during a Celebration.)
Confucius
- Playstyle: Expansionist Scientific
- Historical Civ: Han (Antiquity Age), Ming (Exploration Age), Qing (Modern Age)
- Unique Ability: Keju (Increased Growth Rate in Cities. Increased Science from Specialists.)
Friedrich, Oblique
- Playstyle: Militaristic Scientific
- Historical Civ: Prussia (Modern Age)
- Unique Ability: Berlin Academy (Army Commanders start with the Merit Commendation [increased Command Radius range]. Gain an Infantry Unit when you construct a Science Building.)
Friedrich, Baroque (Deluxe Content Pack DLC)
- Playstyle: Militaristic Scientific
- Historical Civ: Prussia (Modern Age)
- Unique Ability: Hohenfriedberger Marsch (Gain a Great Work upon capturing a Settlement for the first time. Gain an Infantry Unit when you construct a Culture Building.)
Harriet Tubman

- Unique Ability: Combahee Raid (Increased Influence towards initiating Espionage Actions. Gain a set amount of War Support on all wars declared against you. Units ignore Movement penalties from Vegetated tiles.)
Hatshepsut

- Unique Ability: God's Wife of Amun (+1 Culture for every imported Resource. +15% Production towards constructing Buildings and Wonders in Cities adjacent to Navigable Rivers.)
Himiko, Queen of Wa
- Playstyle: Diplomatic Scientific
- Historical Civ: Khmer (Antiquity Age), Meiji Japan (Modern Age)
- Unique Ability: Friend of Wei (Gain a Unique Endeavor called 'Friend of Wei' that can be performed in an Alliance to grant you and your ally increased Science. Can support Endeavors for free. Adds Science per Age for every leader you're Friendly or Helpful with.)
Himiko, High Shaman (Founders Content Pack DLC)
- Playstyle: Cultural Diplomatic
- Historical Civ: Khmer (Antiquity Age), Meiji Japan (Modern Age)
- Unique Ability: Miko of Amaterasu (Increased Happiness per Age on Happiness Buildings. Increased Production towards constructing Happiness Buildings. Gain increased Culture but slightly reduced Science, with increased effects during a Celebration.)
Ibn Battuta
- Playstyle: Wildcard
- Historical Civ: Aksum (Antiquity Age), Abbasid (Exploration Age)
- Unique Ability: Far and Wide (Increase Relationship by a Large Amount with the player who has uncovered the most Fog of War tiles. If there is a tie, Increase Relationship by a Medium Amount to tieholders. Decrease Relationship by a Small Amount with the player who has uncovered the fewest Fog of War tiles.)
Isabella
- Playstyle: Economic Expansionist
- Historical Civ: Spain (Exploration Age)
- Unique Ability: Seven Cities of Gold (Gain Gold every time you discover a Natural Wonder, increased if the Natural Wonder is in Distant Lands. Receive additional tile yields from Natural Wonders, additional Gold towards purchasing Naval Units, and reduced Gold maintenance costs for Naval Units.)
José Rizal
- Playstyle: Cultural Diplomatic
- Historical Civ: Hawai'i (Exploration Age)
- Unique Ability: Pambansang Bayani (When gaining rewards from a Narrative Event, gain additional Culture and Gold per Age. Increased Celebration duration and Happiness towards Celebrations. Has additional Narrative Events.)
Lafayette
- Playstyle: Cultural Diplomatic
- Historical Civ: French Empire (Modern Age), America (Modern Age)
- Unique Ability: Hero of Two Worlds (Gains a Unique Endeavor called 'Reform,' which grants an additional Social Policy slot. Supporting this Endeavor also grants the other Leader an additional Social Policy slot. Increased Combat Strength for every Tradition, but not Policy, slotted in the Government. Increased Culture and Happiness per Age in Settlements. These effects are increased further in Distant Lands.)
Machiavelli
- Playstyle: Diplomatic Economidc
- Historical Civ: Greece (Antiquity Age)
- Unique Ability: Il Principe (Gain additional Influence per Age. Gain a set amount of Gold per Age when your Diplomatic Action proposals are accepted, or even more Gold per Age when they are rejected. Ignore Relationship requirements for declaring Formal Wars. You can Levy Military Units from City-States you are not Suzerain of.)
Napoleon Bonaparte, Emperor
- Playstyle: Economic Militaristic
- Historical Civ: French Empire (Modern Age)
- Unique Ability: Empereur des Français (Reduces the Trade Route capacity for a target civilization and causes massive Grievances. Gets bonus Gold per Age for every leader he's Unfriendly or Hostile with, but less Gold per Age for every leader who sees him as Friendly or Helpful.)
Napoleon Bonaparte, Revolutionary (Link 2K Login to Civ 6 & 7)
- Playstyle: Cultural Militaristic
- Historical Civ: French Empire (Modern Age)
- Unique Ability: La Grande Armée (Gives all army commanders extra movement and grants Culture each time they defeat an enemy unit.)
Pachacuti
- Playstyle: Economic Expansionist
- Historical Civ: Inca (Exploration Age)
- Unique Ability: Earth Shaker (All Buildings gain a Food adjacency for Mountains. Specialists adjacent to Mountains do not cost Happiness maintenance.)
Tecumseh
- Playstyle: Diplomatic Economic
- Historic Civ: Shawnee (Exploration Age)
- Unique Ability: Nicaakiyakoolaakwe (Increased Food and Production per Age in Settlements for every City-State you are Suzerain of. Increased Combat Strength for all your Units for every City-State you are Suzerain of.)
Trung Trac
- Playstyle: Militaristic Scientific
- Historic Civ: Khmer (Antiquity Age)
- Unique Ability: Hai Bà Trưng (Gain a set number of free Promotions on your first Commander. Your Commanders gain additional experience. Gain increased Science in Cities on Tropical tiles; this bonus is increased during any Formal War you declare.)
Xerxes, King of Kings
- Playstyle: Economic Militaristic
- Historic Civ: Persia (Antiquity Age)
- Unique Ability: Crusher of Rebellions (Increased Combat Strength for Units that are attacking in neutral or enemy territory. Gain Culture and Gold per Age upon capturing a Settlement for the first time. Gain increased Gold in all Settlements, increased even further in Settlements not founded by you. Increased Settlement limit per Age.)
Xerxes, The Achaemenid (Deluxe Content Pack DLC)
- Playstyle: Cultural Economic
- Historic Civ: Persia (Antiquity Age)
- Unique Ability: Silk Road (Increased Trade Route limit with all other leaders. Creating a Trade Route or Road with a Merchant provides Culture and Gold per Age. Increased Culture and Gold per Age on Unique Buildings and Unique Improvements.)
At least four more leaders are expected in upcoming Civ 7 DLC.
List of All Civ 7 Civilizations
As for the civilizations of Civ 7, things are different this time around with them being linked to specific ages with changes happening during each transition. There are unique civilizations for the Antiquity Age, Exploration Age, and Modern Age.
The first Modern Age stream confirmed Civ 7 will have a total of 31 civilizations in the game at launch. So far, 30 civilizations have been formally confirmed along with details like playstyle, civic trees, unique unites, and more.
There's also one additional Modern Age civ, Mughal India, that has been spotted in pre-launch Civ 7 gameplay streams but hasn't gotten a formal reveal just yet. That should be the final civ in the launch roster, but more are expected in post-launch updates and DLC.
