One of the very first missions (the 3rd one) in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Wrath of the Druids is named Snaring Thorstein and near the end, it will present you a seemingly tough choice to make.
This quest will start almost immediately upon your arrival in Dublin. You will be informed that Thorstein is plotting a conspiracy against Eivor's cousin Barid, who happens to be the king.
He will ask you to locate him and bring him to king's justice. After you find Thorstein's secret lair and capture him, the final step in this mission will be for you to advise the king what kind of punishment should he bring to the traitor.
And just from the choices, it is not quite easy to understand how will the scene play out, so here we will explain to you the outcome of each of the three choices.
Thorstein's Dignified Execution choice
If you choose the Dignified Execution option, Eivor will say Barid should do this to show his subjects that he is a resolute king that rules by the law.
Sichfrith agrees with you, but Barid will refuse this, and will instead banish Thorstein from Ireland, and confiscate Thorstein’s land and silver.
His motivation behind this decision is Christianity, as he thinks that a true Christian will show mercy.
Thorstein' Brutal Death choice
Thorstein is a traitor who has plotted against the King and Eivor thinks that the brutal death is justified punishment.
Nonetheless, king Barid will react exactly the same as with the first choice, as he wants to please Flann Sinna and to show that he is a true Christian.
Thorstein' Display of Cruelty choice
Eivor says that "people delight in the public spectacle" and suggest that Barid should torture him until he can not walk anymore.
Eivor thinks that this will put fear in his enemies, but Barid yet again responds exactly the same as with the first two versions.
He decides to show mercy and banish Thorstein from Ireland.
And there you have it, this is what will happen with all three Snaring Thorstein choices. As you can see there's no real choice here, as the outcome will always remain the same, the only difference is in what will Eivor say as her proposal for the punishment.
