Ubisoft has restrategized its approach with its existing catalog after initially pulling the plug on releasing its games to Valve's digital marketplace, Steam. This saw multiple releases from the Assassin's Creed franchises and the next Far Cry game entry skipping their Steam releases, which may have been detrimental to their respective successes.

This changed last year when Ubisoft finally reverted its stance by
releasing upcoming games through Steam, which already saw Assassin's Creed Valhalla launched on the platform in 2022, Star Wars Outlaws a few months later post-launch, and Assassin's Creed Shadows as the next release. Likewise, Ubisoft has restored some gameplay features, namely Steam Achievements for multiple games; recently, another Ubisoft-published game was next in line to have this feature restored.

Ubisoft has recently restored Steam Achievements to multiple games over the last few weeks, including Assassin's Creed Unity, Black Flag, Revelations, Syndicate, Valhalla, Mirage, and Rogue and Far Cry 3, 4, 5 and 6. Following its Steam release, Star Wars Outlaws also launched with Steam Achievements enabled, and recently, another Ubisoft franchise, Watch Dogs, gained a much-needed update relating to this feature.

Ubisoft quietly updated the first Watch Dogs this week by adding Steam Achievements to the game, which players can finally dive deep into the technological shenanigans in Chicago to begin unlocking the game's Achievements. For players who have already completed the game on PC, the French publisher stated that "achievements will be retroactively earned for the accomplishments already completed in your game."

As for how this can be achieved, Ubisoft provided details on this, stating that "For the sync to happen, you need to launch the game once, and the previously unlocked Ubisoft Connect achievements will be automatically unlocked on Steam." It's more than likely that Steam Achievements will be added soon to Watch Dogs 2 and Watch Dogs: Legion, but it's a matter of time before this will happen.
