Developer Stoic has successfully released Towerborne, a co-op action brawler for PC via Steam in collaboration with Xbox Game Studios. With plans of a release through the Xbox Game Preview program, which allows players on Xbox consoles to experience this thrilling adventure, PC players get to explore the Belfry and go toe-to-toe with nefarious forces seeking to destroy the last "beacon of hope."
With that in mind, players looking to join this epic conquest solo or with friends online have inquired whether the Early Access or full-release versions will launch as a free-to-play (F2P) offering. We've provided the answer to this question, with vital information from the game's FAQ page to confirm whether Towerborne is F2P or will be a F2P game at release.
Will Towerborne Be Free To Play (F2P)? Answered
As developer Stoic has released their co-op action brawler Towerborne for PC through Steam's Early Access program, players can finally jump into battle as they defend the walls and surrounding areas of the Belfry against forces of evil. According to their Early Access FAQ page, the developer revealed some vital information regarding its Early Access status and eventual release for Xbox Series X|S and PC, including whether the game will be free-to-play (F2P).
For players who are interested in exploring Towerborne, the co-op action brawler won't be an F2P title while it's in Early Access state. According to the information on Towerborne's Early Access FAQ page, the game's "best free-to-play build" is determined based on player feedback that allows them to improve multiple gameplay aspects before its eventual release.
As such, the decision to make the game build a paid version while in Early Access helps the development team create the best game version with the community and to "get Towerborne into the best place it can be before the games are wide open." To gain Early Access to Towerborne, players must purchase the Silver or Gold Founder's Packs, including the base game and bonus cosmetic items included with either pack through Steam.
Additionally, the developer also stated that while the game is currently priced at $24.99 (Silver Founder's Pack) and $44.99 (Gold Founder's Pack), which supports the developer in creating "an experience that will captivate and entertain for years to come," the game will become free-to-play once it leaves the Steam Early Access program.
It's unclear if this will be at launch for consoles and PC or when it releases through Xbox Game Preview next year, which the developer will have to clarify. Nevertheless, the game will become an F2P game when it exits Early Access, meaning that all game updates and gameplay content will be locked behind a paywall or microtransactions.
Weapons, gear, or any and all forms of power-progression will never be behind a paywall. We will be selling exciting cosmetics and must-have convenience items – but those will not influence your power progression.
