The impossible has happened. Super Mario RPG is being remade and is releasing later this year.
The original game, Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, was the final Mario game published for the SNES and was the first RPG in the Mario franchise. It was developed by Square, which means that licensing for the game has been extremely difficult since Square owned the rights to every original character created for the game. It looks like those licensing issues have been resolved though.
The Super Mario RPG remake will launch on November 17th this year, with more details expected later this year. Pre-orders are available right now. Alongside the reveal of this game, it was officially announced that a new Princess Peach game is in development, along with a remaster for the 3DS game Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon.
