Yoshitaka Murayama was perhaps best known for being the creative force behind Konami's Suikoden series, which first released in Japan back in 1995 before launching in the US in 1996. The creator was also the director of the upcoming RPG Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes, developed by Rabbit and Bear Studios.

Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes has been cited as a spiritual successor to the Suikoden series, and is set for release in 2024. The news of Murayama's passing was broken to western audiences via publisher 505 Games.

In a post on 'X', the publisher said, "It is with deep and profound sadness that we have learned of the passing of our friend Yoshitaka Murayama, the creator of forthcoming Eiyuden Chronicles: Hundred Heroes.

Rabbit and Bear Studios reported that Murayama passed away on February 6, 2024 due to complications with an ongoing illness. Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes is reportedly "in the final stages of release.
