Frostpunk 2, Final Fantasy 16, Tiny Glade Tops Steam's New Releases For September 2024

September has been quite a stacked month for video games, with some much-anticipated releases and new expansion content, like Starfield's Shattered Space, that rolled out for some popular live services and online games. More specifically, across various platforms like PlayStation, which had Astro Bot, Son and Bone, and Palworld exclusively launching for the platform and, Nintendo welcomed players back to explore Hyrule in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom.

Steam had several noted releases, including those launching through Early Access and long-awaited PC ports, which saw players jumping in to find their next new favorite or reexplore worlds and stories on PC. As such, Valve recently published a new update revealing some of the best new releases, which have been ordered at random, and some of the entries aren't quite surprising!

Valve unveiled the 20 top gaming releases for PC via Steam in a new blog post published on 28th October 2024, which spotlights video games across multiple genres, from AAA releases to self-developed and published indie breakout stars that launched onto the platform in September 2024. On the back of an impressive launch for Creatures of Ava, which they served as the game's publisher, 11 bit Studios delivered yet another impressive release in the survival strategy game Frostpunk 2, which garnered "Mostly Positive" reviews from over 11,000 Steam users in its launch month.

New PC port releases arrived on Steam in September 2024, like Square Enix's Final Fantasy 16 and Santa Monica Studio's God of War: Ragnarök, which received positive reviews at launch. Franchises also topped Steam's best gaming releases, like EA Sports FC 25 and Visual Concepts' NBA 2K25, which dominated best-selling charts (digital and retail) for the same month, according to statistics from Circana.

Major AAA releases also topped Steam's best new releases that month, such as Saber Interactive's Space Marine 2, which stormed streaming charts at launch with over 200,000 players, an impressive feat for the Warhammer 40,000 series and a return of a fighting game classic as Capcom launched Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection. Indie games also received some love in September with the popular sandbox game Tiny Glade, the open-world building game Satisfactory, and The Astronauts' dark fantasy RPG shooter, Witchfire, which all received patch updates in its launch month with the latter (Witchfire) having launched through Steam Early Access.
