Compulsion Games' upcoming action-adventure game South of Midnight is less than a week away from its anticipated global launch for Xbox Series X|S consoles, Windows PCs, Steam, and Xbox Game Pass. Those who've pre-ordered the game's Premium Edition will play South of Midnight five days early through Advanced Access, which will go live for the abovementioned platforms on 3rd April 2025.

Ahead of the game's official release on 8th April 2025, the developer announced their official social media channels for players who enjoy gaming on the go, specifically for Steam Deck owners. Coincidentally, this latest announcement from Compulsion Games was made on April Fool's Day, which is notably known for video game-related joke posts made by developers and publishers.

The third gaming release from Compulsion Games, South of Midnight, is their upcoming action-adventure game, which follows a woman who discovers she has an ancient weaving ability, which she uses to explore a world inspired by American Deep South folklore and confront its mystical creatures. As reviews for the game will be made public the same day as the Premium Edition's release, the developer announced that South by Midnight is officially Steam Deck verified.

This was detailed in a post uploaded to the game's Steam listing on what Steam Deck owners can anticipate at launch, which, according to the developer, includes accessible functionality "when using the default controller configuration," Steam Deck controller icons visible in-game, and a legible in-game interface. The developer also revealed that when playing South of Midnight on the Steam Deck, they've playtested its default graphics configuration, which they confirmed will "perform well" on the handheld system.

Players have been alerted that the game won't default to external controllers, such as Bluetooth-enabled and USB controllers for the Steam Deck, and as such, they may have to manually switch to the external controllers by accessing the Quick Access menu. Likewise, they've also playtested the game's resolution ahead of launch, in which they've identified that "the game consistently runs above 30 FPS on the Steam Deck in medium quality and in the standard resolution of the device (800p)."

The developer has advised Steam Deck owners to navigate to the Performance Settings from the Quick Access menu and locate the Frame Limit option. Here, players can move the slider to set the frame limit to 30 FPS "for a more consistent interactive experience during play," but this is merely an option for those who much prefer their in-game experiences with a "reduced latency" while in combat or when the Steam Deck is plugged into a power outlet.
