Japanese developer and publisher SEGA has been at an all-time high primarily due to incredible game releases of Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, Persona 3 Reload, and more recently, Metaphor: ReFantazio. The Sonic Team relished these successes with the release of Sonic X Shadow Generations, which has only been out for less than a week and has reached an extraordinary new milestone.
Recently, they distributed a press release announcing Sonic X Shadow Generations "has surpassed one million units" globally, a record-breaking achievement for the action platformer franchise. The game is currently the second game in the franchise to be released with dark and brooding Shadow the Hedgehog as its protagonist; players can switch between Shadow's new narrative adventure in Shadow Generations or play as Classic and Modern Sonic in Sonic Generations remaster anytime.
Shadow Generations is part of the bundled Sonic X Shadow Generations that launched for PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles on 25th October 2024 as players can enjoy multiple gameplay experiences in the aforementioned game and, of course, the Sonic Generations Remastered. While they can go fast around multiple "speed-running" stages as Class and Modern Sonic, they can experience a brand new story as Shadow the Hedgehog must complete unique and familiar stages and bosses from previous Sonic games in a dangerous race against time to defeat Black Doom.
In addition to the new story in this 'high-speed action-adventure" platformer game, the development team added new localization support "to reach a wider global audience and was released simultaneously worldwide on multiple platforms." The game is also heavily promoting a new "transmedia" tie-in with the forthcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 3 film with the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Movie Pack DLC that adds the Tokyo stage map and Keanu Reeves' voiceover work as the titular character which launches on 12th December 2024.
Nevertheless, players have until December to "platinum" Sonic X Shadow Generations and explore the Tokyo stage with film version of Shadow when the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Movie Pack DLC becomes available ahead of the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 film release on 20th December 2024. Unfortunately, if they want to grab the DLC, it's currently included with the Digital Deluxe Edition of Sonic X Shadow Generations and is not sold separately, but the Digital Deluxe Edition is available for pre-order for their preferred platform.
