Playtonic Celebrates 10th Anniversary Announcing Shovel Knight Joining Yooka-Replaylee

Playtonic Games is celebrating its tenth anniversary in 2025 and has plenty of playful surprises for players. One of the surprises is coming to the platformer gaming remaster Yooka-Replaylee, which launched with "new remixed challenges," an in-game map, a "shiny new currency," and plenty of customization options for gaming's "favorite buddy duo."

As for the surprise in question, something "shiny" and rather "shovel...ier" as yet another platformer icon will be swooping in to come to the aid of Yooka and Laylee. As for when players can expect the arrival of the legendary shiny knight, Playtonic has yet to announce the launch date for Yooka-Replaylee, which is currently available to be added to their Wishlist for consoles and PC.

Developer Playtonic Games announced on 28th January 2025 that the iconic platforming hero, Shovel Knight, will join Yooka and Laylee in the forthcoming remaster, Yooka-Replaylee. The remaster was announced in June 2024, which will be published by Team17, and will be making waves on consoles and PC with Wishlisting available now.

"I’ve seen a few folks ask this, and I am happy to report that Shovel Knight is back for Yooka-Replaylee! Looking super shiny and super shovel…y! As well as a shiny new makeover, Shovel Knight will have a newly revised challenge for the buddy duo, too," the official announcement read.

In addition to Shovel Knight's inclusion, there will also be a remixed challenge to clear featuring the titular hero, which he will assist Yooka and Laylee. Yooka-Replaylee will launch for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S consoles and PC, with a release date to be confirmed.
