It has been a while since we last heard from developer Sabotage Studio regarding their acclaimed turn-based RPG Sea of Stars after confirming that production had begun on the game's forthcoming expansion. While it's unknown when players can anticipate jumping into a "fully-fledged side-adventure" in the Throes of the Watchmaker DLC, the developer made a new announcement to prepare players for the DLC.

A free update for Sea of Stars is heading our way this November, ahead of the Throes of the Watchmaker DLC launch, whose release date has yet to be announced. Sabotage Studio provided details on the Dawn of Equinox free update, including new content and features alongside the official release date which they've noted that this update represents their "fully realized vision for Sea of Stars’ spectacular adventure."

Dawn of Equinox is an upcoming free update for the turn-based RPG Sea of Stars, which the game's developer announced in an official post on 1st October 2024. The free update is slated for release on 12th November 2024 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4|5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, bringing many new and highly requested features and improvements to the abovementioned platforms

As to what's included in the Dawn of Equinox free update ahead of its release this November, here's a preview of the new features and improvements coming to Sea of Stars:

  • New Local Co-op allows us to team together and explore the main story with "up to three players" with a new in-game combat mechanic, Co-op Timed Hits
  • New "Bonus Cinematic Scene" has been added for "a pivotal moment in the original adventure"
  • New Speedrunner Mode Relic for our avid speedrunners which this item "activates a range of features" for setting records and breaking personal best scores
  • New Difficulty Presets have been added when starting a new game, "which are presets using the game’s Relics," and as such, new Relics are being introduced for" quality of life and difficulty adjustments"
  • New Localization is arriving to Sea of Stars as "a comprehensive French Canadian translation for Quebec’s finest Solstice Warriors"
  • Combat 2.0 is the game's improved combat system, which adds Mystery Locks, adding "a new gameplay loop" to reveal dynamic ways of breaking spells when new enemies are encountered, and the Reveal functionalities have been included for some of our heroes' unique skills. In addition, Combo Points remain post-battle for new ways of approaching encounters or trying out different types of damage for enemies' locks to be revealed
  • The game's Prologue has been revamped to include improved combat systems and "updated flow" to eliminate "the flashback structure" to start in their childhood, which also impacts the action featured in this section
  • The Parrot Relic has been improved to assist players better when "tracking down overlooked challenges and collectibles"

Alongside these new and enhanced features, there will be some Quality-Of-Life (QoL) imporvements to adjust the game's overall health and gameplay stability with general updates "spanning Sea of Stars’ full campaign." Furthermore, the developer added that the new Local Co-op mode will fully support the Throes of the Watchmaker DLC when it launches in Spring 2025.
