It has been two amazing years since developer Insomniac Games released the third-person shooter platform game Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart for PlayStation 5 consoles. Like previous PlayStation games, it has made its way to PCs post-launch, but while its PC version has received much-needed patch updates, the PS5 version has not until now.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart's version 1.005.000 update for PlayStation 5 arrived last weekend for PS5 consoles in November 2024, adding highly anticipated features for the forthcoming PS5 Pro console release. It was confirmed during last month's State of Play presentation that Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is one of many PS games to be "enhanced by the PS5 Pro" in a game sizzle recap uploaded to their YouTube channel.

The latest Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart update, which arrived on 25th October 2024 alongside an update for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, this latest update released "new visual options for PlayStation 5 Pro." These "new visual options" for the PS5 Pro console are two graphics modes: the Performance Mode, enabled as the default option when the console launches on 7th November 2024, and the Fidelity Pro Mode, with the developer providing additional information for both modes.

As detailed in the update's patch notes, the Performance Mode is being "recommended for most players" as it will aim for "a smooth 60 frames per second (FPS) while retaining the image quality of the standard Fidelity mode" via the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR). Additionally, players should note that Ray Tracing is enabled for this specific mode, which the developer noted includes "ray-traced reflections, ray-tracing on water, and ray-traced window interiors."

On the other hand, the Fidelity Pro Mode aims for 30 FPS for Ratchet & Clank players looking "to experiment with new ray-tracing graphical features," which they can tune "individually to reach higher intermediate frame rates, especially when using the VRR or 120 Hz Display Mode” options." However, the developer has warned players that doing so may result in increased pedestrian and traffic density in certain areas in-game, and "fine hair detail" will also be impacted.
