When talking about the hack-and-slash genre, few titles are as iconic and synonymous with it as Devil May Cry (DMC). While DMC5 delivered one of the series' best entries, seemingly wrapping up the story, recent comments from a voice actor suggest that the legendary franchise might not be done just yet. Let’s break down the details below.
New Devil May Cry Game Rumored After Voice Actor’s Comments
For those who haven’t been keeping up (and with the quiet state of the DMC franchise in recent years, we wouldn’t blame you), a Devil May Cry 25th Anniversary panel was recently held at Power Morphicon 2024, with Vergil’s voice actor Daniel Southworth as one of the key speakers. During the panel, Southworth was asked by a fan about his experience returning to voice Vergil in Devil May Cry 5 after such a long time.
In response, Southworth explained that he returned to voice Vergil in Devil May Cry 5 around 15 years after Devil May Cry 3, and noted that, since both he and the character had aged over time, he naturally fit the role. Any changes to Vergil's voice could easily be explained by the character's aging. However, it’s what he said next that has us speculating.
Southworth mentioned that he had recently worked on an unannounced Capcom title in which he was asked to voice a younger version of Vergil. While he didn’t reveal any further details about the role or the game, he did state that he was specifically instructed to voice the character as he did in 2004. For those who may not remember, the game released in 2004/2005 was Devil May Cry 3.
This has led many to believe that a Devil May Cry remake or remaster could be in the works. After all, DMC3 is one of the games that defined the genre and the series, and many fans would be thrilled to see a remake. Of course, it could also be a completely different title, possibly focusing on Vergil or another game that features a younger version of him.
For now, we can’t say for certain what’s coming next, but fans would be excited to see some of the most iconic characters and heroes from the early-to-mid 2000s, like Dante and Vergil, make a return. Be sure to check back with us soon, as we’ll keep an eye on this development and provide any updates on the possible release of a new DMC game.
