PlayStation Plus June versus Xbox Games with Gold free games lineup - Which is best?

In our first-ever "Which is best?" article, we compared the May free game lineups for both consoles. Last month, Xbox won by the skin of their teeth. Now, it is time for the PlayStation Plus June versus Xbox Games with Gold lineup battle.

First up, we take a look at the PlayStation Plus and Xbox Games with Gold lineups for June, then deliver our verdict on which is best.

Xbox Games with Gold June 2020 lineup

The Xbox Games with Gold 2020 2020 free games lineup features, as always, four games. Two are Xbox One titles, and two are Xbox 360 titles which you can play on the Xbox One thanks to backwards compatibility.

PlayStation Plus June 2020 lineup

After a poor free games lineup in May, Sony has redeemed themselves with a stellar lineup, featuring two big AAA titles for June.

Rumours pointed towards Marvel's Spider-Man being part of the lineup. While Marvel's Spider-Man would have made the lineup even better, the free game offerings are still fantastic.

The PlayStation Plus June 2020 free games are:

• Call of Duty: WWII - Available now
• Star Wars Battlefront 2 - Available 2nd June

Which free games are best?

As per usual, the PlayStation Plus May 2020 free games lineup only has two games, compared to Xbox Games with Gold June 2020 with four games. However, quality beats quantity, and this month, it is quite easy to pick the winner.

First up, two big AAA titles are simply better than four smaller games, especially with two being previous-gen titles. The PlayStation Plus June 2020 free games lineup is just worth so much more.

If this was the launch version of Star Wars Battlefront II, with all the loot box issues, Games with Gold might have had a chance. However, Star Wars Battlefront II has grown into an incredible FPS title over the years.

Call of Duty: WWII might not be the greatest ever in the series, but it features a decent campaign, some good multiplayer, and the fun zombie mode to enjoy. 

Comparatively, the Xbox Games with Gold featured, Xbox One titles, are Coffee Talk (a talking simulator...) as well as a great platforming title Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse. While both Sine Mora and Destroy All Humans! are great titles, they are very old.

There is something to be said about a diverse free games lineup, and the Games with Gold for June definitely has diversity covered. On the other hand, the PlayStation Plus free games are both FPS titles, both featuring single-player and multiplayer.

The PlayStation Plus offerings are simply bigger and better. For us, there isn't much contest between the two free games lineups this month.
