The open-world first-person narrative series Pathologic will receive a new entry, and developer Ice-Pick Lodge will return to helm the project again. The first two releases were praised for their rich storytelling and atmospheric environment design despite issues with gameplay mechanics and combat systems; the next entry changes up the series with a new protagonist, mechanics, and features.
The developer has somewhat confirmed when players can anticipate the release of Pathologic 3 as it doesn't have an exact date, but it's currently slated for a mid-2025 release. In addition, there is no confirmation as to which platforms the game will be available for, but the developer left a note that its Kickstarter backers will receive this game for free.
According to an official game description for Pathologic 3, the game follows the protagonist, Daniil Dankovsky, who is "a man of science, a man with a plan, and a man from the Capital. No longer will the Bachelor of Medicine scavenge through trash bins for food or haggle for bullets."
Dankovsky was one of the playable characters from the first Pathologic game, which, for the character's return, the developer has "revamped the core gameplay" while tailoring a unique experience specifically for the protagonist. This is bolstered with a new story in which, this time, players won't be focused on saving The Town from "fatigue, hunger, and infection," they'll be embarking on a perilous journey across multiple timelines, encountering parallel versions of Dankovsky, the deterioration of his psyche and "the absurdity of this Town."
With players playing through this new, multiversal-like story, facing several versions of events that could've happened before or have yet to come, Dankovsky will be against the clock in efforts to stop "the disease with the "right" measures." While the developer has yet to confirm which other platforms Pathologic 3 will be available for, it's currently listed for PC via Steam, where players can add it to their Wishlist as we're awaiting confirmation for GOG.com and Epic Games Store.
