Developer Night School Studio's supernatural graphic adventure game Oxenfree will reportedly be taken off a prominent independent marketplace later this year. The news comes as a notice has been sent to account holders on the indie marketplace platform Itch.io, which was shared online notifying them of the game's removal.

The notice gained plenty of attention on the gaming forum ResetEra, detailing when Oxenfree will be removed from the marketplace platform. It's not being confirmed why the game is being taken off Itch.io; it's been speculated that the studio's acquisition may be a catalyst behind its removal.

Night School Studio's Oxenfree will no longer be available to purchase or download from the indie marketplace platform Itch.io. Account holders have forwarded a notice on its removal, which was shared online, first gaining traction on ResetEra, highlighting the game will no longer be available starting from 1st October 2024.

"If you have already downloaded the game, you'll be able to keep it and continue to play from your downloaded files. If you have not already done so, you can download files until October 1, 2024, to keep the game," the notice reads.

As such, players who own Oxenfree on Itch.io have until 1st October 2024 to install the game files from the platform before this option becomes unavailable. Likewise, those who downloaded the game files will still own a copy but, more importantly, can continue playing Oxenfree well past the deadline.

The notice concluded with the developer thanking players for their support in the eight years since the game's release, which they added that they "hope to see" them "on another service or timeline soon." Oxenfree looks to remain available on console and PC via GOG.com and Steam as of writing; however, its time has reached its heartbreaking conclusion on Itch.io.
