It's been under a month since Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja surprised many Ninja Gaiden fans with the shadow release of Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, a remaster of Ninja Gaiden 2. The remaster was announced during the Xbox Developer Direct presentation in January 2025, which accompanied the first look gameplay reveal for Team Ninja's upcoming release, Ninja Gaiden 4, slated for a Fall 2025 release.

Developer Team Ninja released a new update for the released remaster, addressing notable bugs and adding new game adjustments and optimizations. Additionally, the developer has included three new game features, including Photo Mode, for players to capture their in-game battles, of which this update was detailed in the patch notes posted to the developer's website.

Developer Team Ninja released a new major update for Ninja Gaiden 2 Black on 12th February 2025 for consoles and PC via the Microsoft Store and Steam, which adds a bevy of bug fixes and adjustments specifically targeting specific missions. This includes lowering enemy HP in chapters 8 and 11, increasing the number of enemies in chapters 13 and 14, and adding a new change that sees a buff to Ayane's attacks.

Some notable bugs addressed include fixes to controllers that wouldn't vibrate "based on computing load or FPS settings" and issues relating to players "playing at over 120 FPS or while under high computing load." As for the new features added to Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, the developer has added a Photo Mode feature, which can be accessed through the Options menu in-game, and a feature allowing players to hide their Projectile Weapon with the "Show Projectile Weapon" setting available within the "Game Settings" via the Options menu.

Lastly, the New Game Plus (NG+) mode has been added to Ninja Gaiden 2 Black in this new update, which is accessible once players have completed the game, allowing them to start a new game on a different difficulty. When starting NG+ mode, players can bring "previously cleared with the weapons and Ninpo" acquired and unlocked from the last playthrough; however, their weapons and Nimpo "will be reverted to level 1."
