Max Payne 1 & 2 Remake - Release date and platforms

There are few more influential games than Remedy Entertainment's Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne. With the help of Rockstar Games, publishers of both titles, the neo-noir action games reached a cult status despite poor sales. 

With gameplay innovations that stand the test of time, such as bullet time action, and an interesting story centred around an NYPD cop looking to avenge his murdered wife and daughter, Max Payne fans have wondered for years if the hope of a remake was even worth keeping alive. 

Now, with the announcement on 6th April that Remedy Entertainment had reached an agreement with Rockstar to work on remakes for both Max Payne 1 and 2 (if you're wondering, Max Payne 3 was developed by Rockstar themselves), fans are wondering when will they get their hands on these exciting new takes on old classics. 

We are pleased to announce that we will remake the iconic Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne, in a new development agreement with Rockstar Games.

Let's tell you everything you need to know about the upcoming Max Payne 1 and 2 remakes. 

Max Payne 1&2 remake - Release date

We don't have concrete information regarding a possible release date but don't expect the remakes to come out any time soon. According to the announcement shared by Remedy, "the project is currently in the concept development stage."

Fans will be happy to hear that Rockstar will hand out a massive budget to Remedy to make the remakes of Max Payne 1&2 the best they can be. "The game’s development budget will be financed by Rockstar Games, the size of which will be in line with a typical Remedy AAA-game production."

The remakes will be made using Remedy's own Northlight game engine, which the studio has used since they developed Quantum Break back in 2016.

Max Payne 1&2 remake - Platforms

While we may not have a proper release date or even a tentative launch window, we do know the platforms players can expect the Max Payne 1&2 remake to be available on. These are:

• PC
• PlayStation 5
• Xbox Series XIS

Sadly for those that still rock their last-gen consoles such as PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, these titles will only be developed with the current-gen consoles in mind.
