EA Play Live 2021 left us big announcements about upcoming releases, from new content for many of EA’s franchises to the release of new sequels and remakes for some of its legendary franchises, like Dead Space.
One of the news that came with great expectation arisen from Codemasters, the studio in charge of the Formula 1 series recently acquired by Electronic Arts, who decided to celebrate this with a surprise announcement in their presentation, by revealing a new instalment of their renowned GRID saga.
GRID Legends: Gameplay details and development
GRID Legends will seek to satisfy fans of various types of competitions, as it will offer traditional races and urban circuits, taking place on more than 130 tracks, including some real and known as Brands Hatch or Indianapolis, other famous ones from the franchise including San Francisco and Paris, and more than 100 Turismo cars including classics, trucks and sports cars.
The title will also feature the inclusion of a custom race creator, where players can combine their favourite classes on the track and compete online.
"We're giving players more variety and options, whether it's creating their ultimate races with our race creator or bringing back the community-requested Drift mode," said Chris Smith, Director of GRID.
GRID Legends: Featured racers and story mode
In addition, this new instalment of their racing simulator will be enhanced with more narrative and cinematics starring three characters who will compete to be the best driver in the world.
Among those chosen to play the characters in this story, we have Ncuti Gatwa (Eric Effiong in the Netflix series, Sex Education), in addition to bringing new and legendary names from the history of the franchise to the starting grid, such as Yume Tanaka, and the iconic Nathan McKane.
The development of the story mode and its cinematics will use extended reality techniques popularized by Disney in The Mandalorian, where the actors can visualize the virtual stage in which they act.
"GRID Legends combines everything our players love and adds more features to fast-paced races, including our episodic story mode," added Chris Smith. "This is just the beginning of the journey and we can't wait to reveal more in the coming months."
GRID Legends release date
Grid Legends will be available in 2022 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam and Origin.
