Dune Awakening is the MMO that even casual gamers are excited for. The hype around the Timothée Chalamet-led movies has given the storied franchise a new generation of fans, and with the upcoming survival MMO giving players a new way to explore Arrakis, it's no surprise that the hope for a release date is on everyone's mind.
Well, Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 20, 2024 brings some good news and bad news. Dune Awakening finally has a release date window, with the game launching early 2025. Unfortunately, the bad news is that console players won't be enjoying the sands of Arrakis until a broad 'later', as revealed in the latest trailer. Sorry, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S players, you'll be waiting a bit longer for your fun in Arrakis' sun.
While the unfortunate announcement of a PC-only release window is disappointing, the new gameplay trailer showcases the chaotic warfare and relaxing base building you can enjoy during your time on the iconic planet. From using seekers to stealthily hunt out your enemies, engaging with other players to build giant shelters away from the hot suns above the desert world, or dealing with the dangerous Sandworms, Dune Awakening looks like a great experience for fans of the franchise.
Recently, the game has been undergoing Dune Awakening beta tests, giving some players the chance to enjoy Arrakis early. However, for many players, the snippets of trailers being revealed is the closest we've got to experiencing Funcom's upcoming game - at least, until 2025.
We wish we could be enjoying the MMO sooner, but at least this gives us a chance to upgrade our gaming setups, considering the game will likely require some hefty specs when the full Dune Awakening PC requirements are unveiled. Nonetheless, Dune Awakening will certainly capture an audience of MMO and Dune fans when it finally launches next year.
