Waypoints may be underutilized, but they can help players reach their destination without consulting the map too frequently. Granted, the controls are somewhat challenging, and explanations of specific mechanics aren't crystal clear; placing down Waypoints is relatively straightforward to achieve in-game.

Waypoints will make reaching destinations and base camps, locating undiscovered areas, and helping complete research missions much easier to accomplish, as all players should utilize this gameplay feature. Using Waypoints allows players to create a custom route that guides them across the terrain without much complications and complete expeditions promptly.

They'll need to open up the Navigation Map by hitting the M key, the View button for the Xbox controller, or the Touchpad on the PS controller, which they have the option to add a Waypoint or multiple points. To place down or add a Waypoint, they click the right mouse button, X button on the Xbox controller, or Square on the PS controller to create a custom-planned route.

To remove a Waypoint, bring up the Navigation Map again, and this time, click the Scroll Wheel, Y button on the Xbox controller or Triangle on the PS controller for a point to be deleted or hold it down to clear the entire route. When returning to the game, it will appear in-game as a blue pin icon, which they can follow carefully to reach their targeted destination, which is highlighted.

Remember to get a more precise route to navigate the rugged terrains; they can zoom in on the Navigation Map using the Scroll Wheel or Analog Stick. Doing so will allow them to plan routes better and avoid major obstacles like cliffs, trees, boulders, lakes, and steep paths.

Another way players can also plan routes better is to utilize the Drone gadget, accessed by hitting the Tab button or the left directional button on the controller to bring up the Devices wheel. Select the Drone gadget and deploy it where they can map out their surroundings to understand better which direction to head towards and arrive safely at their destination.
