Prominent independent gaming showcase Day of the Devs announced it will officially be a non-profit venture, citing significant plans for 2024. This included launching a fundraiser initiative alongside this monumental announcement, which calls for support to continue giving a platform to their “supportive communities.”
This fundraiser initiative was made possible thanks to a “fiscal sponsorship partnership” with Legacy Global, which allows Day of the Devs to continue operations as a non-profit venture, opening the doors to better fundraising opportunities that are “more transparent and public and helps our sponsors and audience understand how critical their support truly is,” according to an official press statement.
The Day of the Devs event was founded by developer Double Fine Productions and iam8bit in 2012 to “celebrate the creativity, diversity, and magic of video games” while spotlighting developers and studios often overlooked and linking them with players through their games. This indie showcase has seen many virtual and in-person events and hundreds of games highlighted, achieved through sponsors from industry leaders, funding from gaming bundles, and “largely donated time from our organizers, our game curation committee, and our collaborators.”
This announcement officially establishes Day of the Devs as moving forward as a gaming event that is “fully independent” while being committed “to being 100% platform agnostic.” As such, they do require financial support, which their fundraiser initiative will assist in funding event venue hiring, technical equipment, staffing, “staffing, video production,” and much more.
In addition, Day of the Devs confirmed new virtual and in-person events for 2024, with their first in-person event in San Francisco, California, in March 2024 and then in Winter 2024 for The Game Awards. The Game Awards edition of Day of the Devs will also have a virtual event, with another virtual showcase occurring much earlier in Summer 2024 for the Summer Game Fest.
Interested individuals and companies wanting to contribute towards the Day of the Devs fundraiser initiative can head to their official website and donate a one-off or monthly donation. They’ve also launched a rewards tier for those who’ve made one-off donations, including indie games from Steam, merchandise, and more.
