With just over a month left until the global launch of the reactive turn-based RPG Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, developer Sandfall Interactive has begun the countdown by launching "a series of videos." These videos are centered around each of the confirmed characters that play a pivotal role in the game's narrative, with the first video featuring the protagonist, Gustave.
According to a press release, these Character Trailers intend to "introduce players to the courageous allies they will soon stand beside when they step into this rich fantasy world this April." For Gustave, a brilliant engineer and a tenacious leader, embarks on a perilous quest "to destroy the Paintress and end the cycle forever."
The first Character Trailer for the reactive turn-based RPG Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 features one of the game's protagonists, Gustave, by diving deep into his backstory, highlighting his skill trees and unique weaponry, and showcasing his combat mechanics. As every character in-game has their specific journey to explore, motivations, and "emotional arcs" to follow, Gustave begins the most dangerous and possibly final quest in the hopes of restoring the future of his city.
The character voiced by British actor Charlie Cox and in French by Alexandre Gillet, Gustave is "an engineer who has dedicated his life to the city of Lumière’s defense and agricultural systems." However, each year when the Paintress paints an age into her monolith, which in the game's story, the age is 33 years, she subsequently condemns all of Lumière’s citizens of that age to death, including Gustave, who as a member of the Expedition, will devote "his final year of life to defeating the Paintress and reclaiming a future for Lumière’s children" alongside his fellow Expeditioners.
Over the next few weeks, Sandfall Interactive will release more Character Trailers for the remaining members of Expedition 33 as we approach the game's launch in April. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is available to pre-order for consoles and PCs in which the Deluxe Edition will include six more outfits and hairstyles that were inspired by the Flowers of Lumière, six “Gommage” outfit variations for every character, the "Clair" outfit for Maelle and the "Obscur" outfit for Gustave at launch with the base game.
